'I wonder if Azul is the same.'
When Azul told her that he wanted to court her, that was the thought that first popped into her mind.
"I'll be good to you."
'But for how long would you be interested in me?'
For the past two months, he had never shown any sign of dislike or impatience. He was persistent in his own way. 'But they were all like that.'
With a hardened expression, skin moist and hair damp she looked out of her bubble covered prison and muttered, "I've been here for too long."
Mirabella, thinking about all of her past relationships learned that the person a man introduced while pursuing a woman is not his complete self but rather best version of himself.
Or worse, an alter ego built simply to lure an unknowing prey.
"Males only dedicate themselves to their female after union."
Azul had explained many things to her and she got a good grasp of the way his society functioned. But simply because she knew didn't mean she could swallow the facts.
'According to him, while females can have as many men as they'd like males can only be with one female for the rest of their lives. Also, there's the soul mark.
A literal binding contract on the soul. God, why'd you have to yeet me to this kind of world?
A man and woman become soul mates but she can be a whore and he can't be a man whore. A polar opposite to my world. It's so strange.'
Her thoughts were getting deeper and deeper. 'This means men are loyal to their females, and even if they don't want to stay anymore they can't leave because of the soul mark.'
But the fact only made Mirabella feel worse. It made her feel quite happy knowing that if she roped in Azul, he couldn't leave her the way all of her exes heartlessly did.
'But it's no use if he doesn't want me. What's the use of his loyalty if it's not the affection I want? Besides, if I marry him what would happen to me after I go back? What would happen to him?
What will the soul mark do to us? More importantly, what if I won't be able to leave because the moment I have a mark I'll be bound to this world.
But right now, my most important priority is my survival.'
"Azul," She called out to him, gazing out through the pretentious bubble keeping the air trapped inside. He moved, slightly, sharp and long ears like an elf in fantasy stories twitching at the sound.
"I've been wondering what the tribe looks like." She said almost nonchalantly with a bare smile at her lips. Then she turned to him and softly asked, "Will you show me around?"
Azul was quiet for sometime and then a chuckle left his pale, cold lips. The gills on his neck throbbed. "Of course. Come with me."
What wonders under the sea and all it's colours, surely a creature of beauty wouldn't wish to return to dry ground if all that allure could be hers. That's what he thought and told himself.
"But, stay with me. It'll be quite dangerous outside."
Just as fish wonder what's its like to walk, those who walk wonder what it's like to fly.
'Let's see. What this place is like and will I be able to leave?'
The cracks and crevices went unnoticed as she plotted her escape for the sake of herself and as he planned her imprisonment for his sake.
