Hi again. I've heard people say that you can learn everything from the internet, but that just isn't true. Over the past month I've been setting up traps, catching animals, and eating new plants, but it hasn't been easy-going. The internet made it seem really easy to catch animals, but the reality is so different. I haven't caught many rabbits or other small rodents, even though they are EVERYWHERE. I better try harder in the future.
On the plus side, I ACTUALLY GOT A DEER!
It turns out, that some hunter was in the mountain off season, and they got the deer, and it stumbled into the clearing near my tree! The hunter never found it either! So now, I have lots of smoked venison (that's a story in itself, but I don't have time to write it in here) I'm also using the hide of the deer! I have used an old stump that is from a tree as big as the one I'm in, and I've carved a vat into it! I've figured out clever ways to carry water around, so I filled it up, put a really cool mixture I learned from the internet, that uses oak chips and water together, boiled, to make tannic acid. I have a pot that I purchased for New Delhi for this, so I was able to boil it over a fire and slowly build up the amount of tannic acid I had to tan the hide. I'm going to make the hide into some new clothes for me so I stay warm. If I find another deer I'll make a better door for when winter comes. Well, at least New Delhi is only an hour away! The perfect distance for me to be out in nature and alone, but able to drop by when I want something.
