Let me just say, this guy is amazing.

Tony Stark starts off as an absolute dick, and I am totally aware of that. When I was watching Iron Man 1, I was like, Jesus Christ here we go... but then his character development just came and I'm like; I'm in love.

Tony Stark starts as a self-made genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist who is arrogant as fuck (and still is to be frank). He thinks highly of himself, and for good reason too.

But then, during war, he almost dies by getting blown up by his own weapon which is a major eye-opener for him. He makes a suit out of scrap metal and materials (like the genius he is) and manages to bust out of the terrorist camp and go back to his tower and stop production of his weapons.

This is the first time you see him learn from his mistakes. He realises that he's making weapons that people are using for bad and to injure innocent people so stops the production, even if it costs him his business.

This man decides to help stop the terrorists and becomes the masked hero that doesn't stay masked for long because of his big ego. I know that the big ego is something he might have to work on (and he definitely does throughout the whole movie franchise) but it adds a level of character that I feel like some characters are missing (*cough* Cap *cough cough*).

There are tonnes of other times Tony has learned from his mistakes:

His best friend falls from the sky? Installs a parachute in Peter's suit.

He gets stuck in the cold? Installs a heater in Peter's suit.

He gets kidnapped? Peters suit has a tracker.

He wants to put armour around the world, but he can't, so he puts it around his world.

This man works hard for everything he has earned. He's smart and resourceful, with an ability to think on his feet, creating answers to questions people didn't even know possible. HE INVENTED TIME TRAVEL FOR GODS SAKE!

Also, the amount of times he sacrifices himself for the safety of others. In Iron Man 1, he sacrifices his whole business that he's built towards to keep people safe. In Avengers, he blasts himself into a mysterious hole without hesitation. In Endgame... don't get me started on Endgame... I can't talk about it without crying...

Along with being smart and selfless, he's a really funny character as well. His snarky comments, hilarious nicknames and witty comebacks makes him a great character to watch and break the tension. His last words were even a snarky comment.

Over the franchise, Tony's character arch is probably the best out of all the characters. He starts out as a selfish jerk and ends up sacrificing his life for the safety of the universe.

Tony also adopts a father-like figure on Peter, taking him under his wing, doing almost anything to protect Peter.

I don't know if my dad being somewhat like Stark (apart from the whole genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist thing) adds towards why I like him so much. He's extremely protective and has very strong beliefs, which is an important part in all characters.

Overall, Tony is one of my favourite characters in Marvel and may he Rest In Peace.
