"We we're so hyped when we got it. We thought that rescue would show up right away, but... three days go by and nothing. It started to feel like a sick joke. 'Like a fucking cocktease' as Toni would say."
"Can you elaborate on 'Cocktease?'" Agent young stifles laugh.
"You know, like, it was right there, but at the last second, it was just ripped away."
——————
"How can it be this hot and this windy at the same time?" I whine to dot and Toni.
"It's like we're being blasted by a giant hairdryer" Dot laughs back, setting down fatins bag by the fire.
"yeah, and then freezing our asses off in that cave at night." Toni chimes in, with a sour look on her face.
"Okay dude, I get it. that cave was a bust, and it was my idea. But didn't I pay the ultimate price? A bat took an actual shit in my actual mouth." Dot exclaims, making me scrunch my nose up with disgust.
"Yeah, dude, you really need to work on sleeping with your mouth shut." Toni laughs
"Can't help it, man, that's just how I breathe. It just sucks that we're out here again with nothing over our heads." She groans and sits down in the sand.
"carnivores aren't the deadliest force in the wild, you know." Dot exclaims, wiping the sweat off her forehead.
"Don't make guess what is" Toni replies sarcastically.
"Exposure. Slow killer." She nods her head.
"Where does thirst rank? Cause I'm blowing through my stash over here." I tell dot, who gives me a half smile and sighs,
"it's hard not too. This reminds me of that, like, Texas in July heat, you know? The kind that make old people drop dead on their way to the mailbox and sane people sort of... snap. Case in point." She nods towards Martha.
Toni looks at Marty and gives her a big smile, so happy that her best friend can walk again.
All the sudden, someone screams "TAKIS!" and just like that, we're in a shelter building contest.
——————
It was me, dot, Rachel, Leah, and fatin.
The gameplay was simple: build a shelter and do it by sunset. The axe will be shared and all other Materials were finders keepers.
"Shit. Turmoil over there." Dot murmurs, pointing towards the other group.
"Isn't that good for us?" Rachel asks. I swear, you can smell the competitiveness reeking off of her.
"If you've seen any group challenge on any reality tv show ever, you'd know that it's the hot mess team that always pulls out the win.... So, that's why I've got a game plan." Dot says grinning.
"Okay, let's do it." Rachel declared, crossing her arms.
"You don't even wanna hear it first?"
"Look, I'm cool with just following your lead. This shit is not in my wheelhouse. And I don't think it's in Lydia's." Rachel scoffs, looking over at me.
"Yeah, no, extremely not." I reply, looking down at my hands.
"And i'd bet my life that it's not in fatins or Leah's." She continues on.
"Where is Fatin anyway?" I chime, looking around for the missing girl.
"What did I miss?" Fatin replies, dragging Marcus over to us on cue.
"Where were you?" Leah asks her angrily.
"Relax. I was contributing. Got us our sixth man here." She exclaims proudly, patting him on the back.
"If we wanna win those Takis, we gotta focus. What were gonna do comes straight out of Daniel t's. Playbook. Second runner up 'alone in the outback' season 8." Dot pauses and points,
"You are those pieces of driftwood over there? If we stand them up, find the right log as the spine, and then some brush for the roof, then we've got ourselves a winning A-frame."
"Alright, let's go get it." Rachel says and runs over to the pile of wood.
"Wait, why are you just sitting there?" Leah Rudely asks fatin.
"Oh, you meant, like everybody?" She says, not making any move to get up.
"I guess you could just chill here." Dot chimes in, nodding towards fatin with a small smile.
Leah scoffs, "No, she can't do something, like, not constructive."
"Okay.. well, then, Lydia and I will go get the log from the cave. And, Fatin, you could gather some fronds for the roof." Dot says, trying not to stir the pot.
"You got it! Is that constructive enough for you?" Fatin sneers at Leah.
"Rachel, make sure they don't kill eachother, please?" Dot pleads, making Rachel smirk.
"Not if I kill one of them first."
—————
Dot and I haven't talked about our kiss, she apologized, but I didn't think she needed too.
I don't regret it, but I feel like she might.
"Lydia! Hurry your ass up." Dot yells from up the hill in front of me.
"You're going too fast!" I whine, jogging to try and catch up.
When I finally get to the top of the hill, she is no where to be found.
"Dot?"
I start walking through the trail further, assuming she's just far ahead, when suddenly I hear a twig snap near the trees next to me.
"Dot?" I ask once again, not getting a reply.
Carefully, I start walking closer to where the sound came from.
"BOO!" Dot yells and jumps from behind a tree, causing me to scream and grab my chest
"Oh my god, Dot!" I yell at her, while laughing.
"I thought I was about to get killed by a bear."
"A bear? You know we're on an island, right?" She giggles at me, and extends her hand towards mine.
"Are you okay, though? I didn't scare you too bad, right?" She asks teasingly, making me blush.
"You definitely did."
Mimicking her movements from the first time we were alone together, she reaches up to move brush a few hairs off my face, staring straight into my eyes.
"I'm sorry I ran last time, can we try again?" She asks in a whisper, scared of what I might say next.
Without saying anything, I crash my lips against hers. Dot groaned and wrapped her arms around my waist, letting herself sink into my embrace.
Pulling back, I take a deep breath, remembering how fatin told me to open up to her.
"Can I tell you something?" I ask, resting my head back on the tree.
She nods while playing with a piece of my hair, confused on where this is going.
"I was in a really shitty relationship. Uh, he would hurt me... emotionally, physically, mentally. He loved it, you know? He loved making me feel like shit." I breathe out, looking into dots eyes for any sign of emotion.
"Um, not too long before I came here, I tried to kill myself.. partially the reason I'm here. Him being the other reason... So, yeah... " I trail off, awkwardly fiddling with my hands.
Dot reaches out to stop my movements, her eyes locking on mine.
"Hey, I will never hurt you." She affirms, placing a small kiss on my forehead.
I smile at the girl, pulling her into a warm hug.
"I know."
—————
"You know, I can't Believe I'm going to say this, but we could really use fatin right now." Dot groans, while attempting to dig a hole.
"If we lose this because of her ass, I'm gonna be pissed. I do not do losing." Rachel says, while lifting up a bunch of wood to make our 'walls.'
"Fatin!" I call out to her, seeing her with hardly anything.
"You rang?" She smiles at me, before sitting down once again.
"Where were you?" Leah questions her, clearly annoyed.
Fatin points her toothbrush at her, "was preventing gingivitis."
"The hell? You had a toothbrush in your bag?" Dot almost yells at her.
"So what? It's not like anyone would want to share it with me."
"Well, my inventory was supposed to be comprehensive, man. And honesty, I'm not above sharing." Dot fires back, shrugging her shoulders.
"Yeah my teeth are fuzzy at this point." I laugh, agreeing with her.
"We're slaving away out here, and you're off worrying about fucking dental hygiene?" Leah stands up, getting angrier by the second.
"Leah, chill out." I try and chime in, but fatin cuts me off
"Yeah, Leah, chill. I just spent 25 minutes finding fucking fronds for you guys. Excuse me if I want to take 30 minutes to myself."
Dot laughs sarcastically and stands up
"Dude, those numbers don't add up."
Fatin shakes her head, glaring at all of us
"you know what? Fuck this shit."
"Where you going fatin? Oh, are you off to scour the island for some random guy to fuck?" Leah shouts after her.
"Ah! So this isn't about the fucking fort. It's about Jeffery, isn't it? yeah I fuck a lot of guys, because I find it extremely fun, and because I'm not delusional about it. Like, if I was gonna go to pound town with some 30 year old, it's because I know he has a fetish for teenage pussy. I would never be such an idiot, to think he was actually into me." fatin snaps back to her, causing Leah to turn red and grab fatins jacket, dragging her away.
"Leah, stop! You don't have to do that!" I shout at her.
"You're fucking hurting me!" Fatin screams, flailing her arms.
Leah pushes her back, causing fatin to fall and land on a stick, immediately bleeding.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? you fucking cut me!" Fatin yells, throwing a stick at Leah.
"Get the fuck out of here!" Leah screams, grabbing rocks and throwing them towards her.
"You guys, stop!" I cry out, shaking my head at my little sister.
"Don't you ever put your hands on me again." fatin sneers, before looking down at her cut up leg.
"Or what?" Leah challenges.
Fatin laughs out loud and rubs her hands on her leg, before walking up to Leah and rubbing it all over her cheeks.
Leah laughs back at her "you cunt."
Leah starts stripping her clothes off and walks to the ocean, staying under the water for a minute before coming back up to float.
"Man, that is some serious Virginia Woolf type shit." Rachel whispers, while we stare at the mad sight before us.
"I don't even know what that means." Dot replies.
"It means that bitch is crazy. Sorry not sorry, Lydia." Fatin snaps, causing me to look over at her.
"And to think, she said you were the psychopath of the group." She continues, nodding towards Rachel.
"Come on guys, we should keep building..." dot speaks, trying not to cause any more problems.
———————
"Well, it's humble, but it's home." Dot says, offering Shelby a taki.
"Oh, that's alright. I didn't win." She replies, sweetly.
I Scoff at her, "who cares? We're all in this clusterfuck together."
She smiles at me and grabs a few from the bag.
"Ugh. Not as good as I thought they'd be." Dot says, scooting closer to me.
"All I taste is dry." Leah says in a whisper, looking at the takis sadly.
"Hey, mind if I have some?" Rachel asks Leah, to which she hands her a few.
"And I'll be careful not any sudden movements, ya know? You might be pretty jumpy sitting next to a psychopath." She smirks at her, causing Leah to widen her eyes and look away quickly.
"Does anyone have any spare drinks they could loan me? I just tapped out" Fatin chimes in, looking away embarrassed.
"Dude, we're all running low. You're supposed to manage your own rations." Dot says, her hand now playing with mine.
"How'd you get so thirsty? It's not like you were exerting yourself." Leah scoffs at her.
"It could be the sodium bicarbonate." Nora tried to keep the peace.
"You know what, I'm sick of hearing this shit. Let me ask you something, all of you. Whose hypoallergenic pajamas were shredded to bind together logs? And whose sweaters are keeping you ingrates from freezing? Some people provide goods. Some provide services. I'm a goods provider, therefore I get a pass-" but before Fatin could finish, Leah cuts her off.
"This is such bullshit! You're a goods provider because you had the stupid good fortune to find your fucking bag."
"You need to get your fucking talons out of my back, girl. For your own health." Fatin spat back at Leah, rolling her eyes.
"Can I please just have someone's drink? A sip!" She goes on, whining.
"We vote. Anyone who wants to give up a drink they carefully saved, for somebody who did jack shit all day, raise your hand." Leah says and looks around.
When nobody raises their hand, Fatin gets up to leave
"Should we go after her?" Martha asks, feeling bad that she didn't offer her one.
"No. Fuck her." Leah sneered, watching fatin walk away into the darkness.
After an hour or so, mostly everybody was fast asleep. Having a sense of shelter, made things feel more peaceful.
"Are you awake?" Dot whispers next to me, causing me to turn over and look at her and nod.
She gives me a sorry smile and opens her arms up, offering for me to come lay with her.
A blush crept to my cheek and I slowly scooted over towards her.
"I hope tomorrow isn't as... fucked." She whispers in my ear, while playing with a piece of my hair.
Beginning to draw shapes on her arm with my finger, I reply
"Something good is going to happen, I can feel it."
———————-
"Would you say, that it felt like there was a divide in the group?" Agent faber questions.
"It kinda felt like Leah VS Fatin VS the rest of the group.. Leah and her theories definitely made the vibes off... but I don't know. There was something more to it."
