I Like Your Face ~ Colby Brock

Chapter 4

We spent the entire summer in Korea. We arrived back in America the week before school started on August 26th. I had spent 3 whole months in Korea and met Eric's whole extended family. Going to Korea has definitely helped my Korean a lot. Anyway, once I get back home, it takes about 3 days for me to readjust to the American time zone. My parents asked how Korea was since I was gone for so long. I'm also super excited to be turning 16 this November. I've had this image of how I want my sweet 16 to be like. I've been planning it as soon as I got back from Korea. Eric told me that he's planning something super special for my sweet 16. I'll also be starting my sophomore year, while Eric will be starting his junior year. I feel like my years at high school are going to fly right by. I'm already halfway through my high school career. It feels like yesterday that I started high school.

Today is my sweet 16th birthday. I had even chose a dress to wear at my sweet 16th birthday party. Here is the dress I chose:

I think it's absolutely beautiful. I've invited all my friends to this huge party of mine. I've also invited Eric to this party. He looks so handsome in that Armani suit. I guess his parents are well off, they had moved out of their apartment into a 9 bedroom, 5 bathroom house. Eric comes from a rich family, and I come from a lower middle class family. I'm lucky to even have Eric as my boyfriend. Since I'm 16 now, the age of consent, I invited Colby to my birthday party. I held onto that sticky note with his number on it for a couple years now. I don't know if he'll show up for not, but I can only hope so.

About an hour into my party, Colby texts me.
Colby🖤🥵: Hey, I'm omw
Me: Wait fr??
Colby🖤🥵: Yeah, this is the best thing I could do as someone you look up to😄
Me: Thx so much Colby🥺💖
Colby🖤🥵: Ur welcome, see you soon😉
Colby arrives to my party, having drove here from landing in Salt Lake City, Utah. He comes through the door, and waves to all my guests. I'm sitting in front of all my guests, in my big poofy dress.
"Hey! It's been a while." Colby said.
"Oh my God, you're here!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, hey. Wow, you look so beautiful in that dress." Colby said.
"Aww, thank you. You're making my blush." I said, covering my mouth.
"Come here." Colby said, gesturing for me to stand up.
I stand up and the party MC plays '텐데...(Timeless)' by NCT U as the ballad song we'll be dancing the Waltz to. Colby is actually a really good dancer. I can't stop staring into his beautiful eyes. That and when he smiles, his dimples show, and they're so cute. I can't hold back much longer and I kiss Colby romantically.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! You're my girlfriend, you don't kiss anyone else!" Eric exclaimed.
Colby pulls away, "Oh, I'm so sorry, man."
"I'm sorry Eric, I just couldn't resist him much longer because I'm very attracted to him." I said.
"You know what, we're over. Don't talk to me anymore. Goodbye!" Eric screamed, storming out.
"Eric, no wait!" I exclaimed.
"Let him go. He's not worth it." Colby said.
"I- aww. We've been dating since I was in 7th grade. He was my first boyfriend, and now he just broke up with me because I kissed you." I said.
"It'll be okay. I'm right here for you." Colby said, pulling me into a hug as I burst into tears. Colby wipes away my tears with his thumb.
"The party is over now. Everyone, please go home." I said.

After saying the party is over, all my friends start leaving one by one. Colby shrugs his shoulders, not knowing what to do. I go to the bathroom to change out of my big dress and change into a cocktail dress.
"So, Colby. Since I'm the age of consent, I was wondering would you like to be my new boyfriend?" I asked.
"Your ex just broke up with you, are you sure you want to move on so quickly?" Colby asked.
"I guess you're right. I should give myself some time to heal from this past relationship. I'll hit you up again when I'm ready to move on." I said.
"Alright, sounds good." Colby said.
I believe I'll talk to Colby again when I'm ready to move on from Eric.

When we finish cleaning up the ballroom, my parents, my brother, and I go home. I stare at Eric's number, debating whether or not I should delete his number. I try texting Eric, and it turns out that he blocked my number. Huh, he must be really hurt by me kissing Colby. Understandably so, as I've only ever been with Eric since 7th grade. I understand why Eric broke up with me because of me being attracted to Colby. Sometimes, relationships are not meant to work out. It's time I move on from my first love. It's time I see other people. I've dated one person for the past 3 to 4 years. It's time we both move on and find people who we truly love. I think I've truly fallen in love with Colby. I just think I'm still too young for him. I turned 16 today, and Colby is 6 years older than me. He is 22 years old. I'll have to wait 2 years, when I turn 18, before I even consider dating him. It will be the best for us, if we wait until I am legal age before diving into a relationship.
