I sat next to the hospital bed where Kasper lay asleep. For once, he looked at peace with himself, his face relaxed and dreamy. I held his weak hands in mine, afraid of ever letting go of someone so dear and precious to me. I realized last night that Kasper means so much more to me than I could ever express in words. If I lose Kasper, then a part of me dies.

A loud knock came at the front door to which Madam Pomfrey, the Hogwarts nurse, responded to by trudging up the door and slightly cracking it open.

"You have a few visitors, Miss Rosewood," said Madam Pomfrey as she let Harry, Ron, and Hermione inside.

"Holly?" said Harry, "We were told you were in the Hospital Wing?"

"I am, but I'm not the one with injuries."

When the three walked closer, they finally saw Kasper and glared surprisingly at him.

"What happened!" gasped Hermione.

"Well, Kasper and I were in the library after hours when suddenly he had blacked out. Strangely enough, Professor Lupin happened to be there at the perfect time. I watched over Kasper while Lupin ran to alert Madam Pomfrey."

"Why exactly did he pass out?" asked Ron.

"I'm not sure yet, but it was a tragic night. I actually insisted on staying the night here."

"Has he woken up?" asked Harry.

"Yes! At one point in the middle of the night, I heard Kasper awake from his sleep. I calmed him down and told him to rest. He has been asleep since."

Before one of them could say anything, Madam Pomfrey came stomping towards us with a clipboard in her hands.

"After close examination," she began, "Kasper is very dehydrated which caused him to pass out and has lead to a few other medical issues."

I threw in a deep breath, and Harry immediately grabbed onto my hand to keep me from losing my balance.

"How long will it take for him to fully recover?" I asked as I looked at Kasper.

"We are going to keep him in here as long as it takes him to recover. In the mean time, I shall be giving him some medicine and treatment."

"I understand," I replied.

"Well I suggest you four make your exit so Kasper may get some rest. Have a good day!" said Madam Pomfrey as she walked over to the medicine cabinet in the back.

The last thing I desired to do was leave Kasper once again. I knew I had to obey the nurse, but I simply just could not leave him. I just couldn't forgive myself for leaving him all alone, and I never wished to leave his side once more.

"He's going to be alright," whispered Hermione.

"I hope so," was my simple and unconvinced response.

"Come on," whispered Harry softly as I let him hold my hand and gently lead me away from my cousin.

I remembered when Kasper was not the way he is now. He used to be full of light and energy. He was reckless and wild, as most young boys are. His imagination stretched beyond measure, and he never stopped smiling. The sound of his laughter would fill you with serotonin. His humorous personality and enjoyable company were his most favorable traits and what I loved most about him. I would honestly give anything to have the old Kasper back. I believe he still lives deep inside Kasper, but I'm afraid I may never hear him laugh again, tell a corny joke, or simply be happy. And I hated that more than anything.

How could someone be so crooked and twisted to destroy such a innocent soul?
