Luz's POV

I was running. The chickens were getting louder.. but now there was barking. King was there! I reached the coops, there was King and a fox, fighting. I looked around but before I could jump to action, Amity ran up holding a stick.

"Get on!" She swiped the stick at the fox, it nicked the fox's back. The fox let out a loud yip. King snarled and chased after the fox as it ran off.. "Where's he going!?"

"He's going to make sure the fox leaves the property." I hurried to one of the coops and opened the gates. There was a two dead chickens. I frowned. I guided myself to the chickens. I could feel my chest tighten causing me needing to breathe deeper... It happened often when I ran.

By now the chaos has brought Eda out, she had a shotgun in hand. She looked over and saw the chickens.. "Damnit." She put her gun down and hurried over crouching down next to me.. "That's the third time."

"Poor chickens.." Vee muttered.

Eda picked the chickens up.. "Luz go saddle up Azura."

I nod and stand up. I grabbed my lantern.. I winced as I stood up.. Pain was burning in my back.. I fought back tears . The pain didn't last long.. When the pain faded I was able to start over to the horse paddock, but someone grabbed my wrist, causing me to turn and face Mamá.

"Luz.. ¿Te sientes bien? You're breathing deeper. And I noticed you wincing.." Mamá said.

I nodded. "Si.. Estoy bien mamá.. Just a bit of pain, nothing I can't handle."

Mamá narrowed her eyes. "Luz, será mejor que no estés mintiendo. Su lesión no debe tomarse a la ligera. You're to tell me if it gets worst than normal."

"¡Sí, señora!" I nodded.. I wasn't lying. The pain was normal.. Nothing I couldn't handle.. I didn't see why she was making a big deal out of it.

Amity ran up beside me. "Why are you saddling up Azura?"

"Eda's going to run the chickens out to the far end of the pasture. It's where she buries the chickens. Eda does sale the animals killed by wild animals." I explained.

"Why is she taking Azura? Does she not have her own horse?" Amity asked.

"No. Me and Vee have horses. Eda doesn't. My horse is the better of the two, when it comes to riding at night that is. We do have a few other horses, but they're work horses strictly basically." I put the lantern down and flicked the barn lights on.

A loud hoot sounded from above. "Sorry Owlbert!"

An angry hoot was all I got in return.

"Owlbert?"

"He's one of the owls that live on the farm. He catches mice and just kinda vibes. Then Hooty is the other one.. He's..... Well he's Hooty." I opened the stable tack door. I paused trying to figure out how to get the saddle and other tack.

"Here, let me help." Amity picked up the saddle and saddle pad, shocked at how seemingly heavy it was.

"You sure you got it?"

"Yep!"

"Alright. Put it on the barrel outside in the stables." I walked over to a hook, grabbing Azura's reins. I walked out to Azura's stall. "Here Azura." She approached me, lowering her head, allowing me to slip her reins on. I made sure the bit was in good and the reins were secured well.
