Chapter Nine

Amity's POV

An Hour Before The Fair

I adjusted my shades.. I raked off any and all grime off my white and light gray stripes shirt.. I made sure to tighten my belt to the perfect size.. I made sure my jean shorts were straight and not crooked... Tonight was mine and Luz's date.. Of course I would be after she gave out wagon rides.. But I didn't mind. I was just happy I was getting to spend time with her..

Knock...Knock... Knock...

I looked behind me.. "Y-yes?"

The door opened and Emira was there.. Much to my disappointment. "Oh.. Hey."

Emira shut the door. "You look good.." she walked over to my bed, taking a seat.

"Thanks.."

She looked down at her feet, gently kicking her feet..

"Dime for your thought?" I asked, taking a seat next to her..

Emira looked at me and chuckled a bit. "Nothing really. I'm just.. Proud of you.."

I raised an eyebrow. "Proud of me?"

"Making real friends again... Figuring out yourself.. Going out with Luz? I'm just proud of you." Her gaze drifted down to my knee.. "How's your knee."

"Better.. It hurt worst the other day but it feels fine now. Also, are you going to the fair?"

Emira shrugged. "Maybe. I don't know. I think since everyone will be at the fair, I might stay here and rest." Emira leaned back. "I don't want to interrupt your date and all."

I chuckled.. "Yeah, I get it.."

"Amity?" Luz's voice came through the door.. "You're door is open, but I didn't want to barge in."

I looked at Emira..

Emira smiled.. "Go ahead. I'll see you guys soon.."

I nodded. "I hope to see you there." I stood up and opened the door more.. I blinked seeing Luz there.. She was wearing a nice black shirt with short overalls, plus a black cap that was on backwards, allowing a few strands of hair to poke out of the hat.. Her hair was in a low ponytail.

"Oh.. You look really nice Amity." She said, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Thank you... You don't look half bad yourself."

Luz grinned stupidly.. It was cute.. Her cheeks rises to a soft red. "I'm heading to the fair early to set up.. You're welcome to come, or you can stay here.."

"Are you taking your truck?"

"No.. I'm taking the wagon.. Willow and Eda just filled it with hay.. So I need to take the wagon.. I thought I'd invite you... A nice wagon ride sounded nice to start out.." she had her hand out..

I looked at her.. I smiled.. I took her hand, our fingers intertwining.. "I like that idea.." We started down the hall.

"Have fun you two!" Emira said, chuckling.
