Taking the Last Punch

Chapter 4

I woke up early this morning still next to Dally like when I feel asleep I got up to get cereal.

Darry and Soda where in the kitchen. Soda looked like he has been awake for 48 hours straight. "You okay?" I ask Soda. "Yeah just a bit tired. Couldn't sleep." He answered. "Why?" I asked getting eggs from Darry. "My kid brother is off running around somewhere and could be getting hurt." He said eating his eggs with jelly. "Pony is fine. He has Johnny with him." I say. It was quite then Dally came out. "We gotta get going." Darry said getting ready to leave with Soda.

"Can you watch Sweet Pea today? We are working late." Darry said walking out the door. "I guess." Dally said looking at me. "And please don't encourage her to run away." He said leaving. Dallas rolled his eyes. "No promises!" Dallas yelled as they left.

Two came inside. "What happened to you?" He asked noticing my leg. "Socs kidnapped her, I swear someday I'm gonna kill all them socs so they are extinct." Dally answered for me. I looked at him and he gave me this mad and sad look, something I've never seen from Dally. He shook it off.

"Buck has a party today and we are going." Dallas stated. "But Sweat Pea." Two said. "We aren't staying in, I need to get my mind off Jonnycakes, I'm worried sick about that kid." Dallas said. He looked at me, "You worried about Sweets? Stay in the bedroom with her because we are sleeping at Bucks." He said then looked back at Two. "We'll take turns watching her." Two said.

--At the party--

I laid on the bed with Dallas next to me. His arm was around me and has looking at me. "Can I help you?" I asked. He didn't do anything. I put my arm around him and put my head on his chest going to sleep.

I was so cold, Bucks house must be -20 degrees.

I woke up and the light was on, Two-Bit was sitting at the chair. I groan and pull the blanket over my head.

"You need a new bandage on your leg." We went to the bathroom more exposed to the pounded music. He sat me on the counter of the bathroom and removed the bandage. It was dry with a big red scab. I can't really describe what it looked like.

He put a different bandage on and there was a knock on the door. Two opened it and it was Buck. "Really, you brought her? This isn't day care ya know?" Buck said leaning against the door. "Take it easy, she doesn't have anyone at home." Two said trying to back me up. I know Buck and I've been here plenty of times before, just not when there's been a party going on. He walked over to me and took me off of the counter. "Go back to the room." He gave in pointing to the bed room.

Two and I walked out, "I want you gone by morning!" He shouted. Two-Bit gave a thumbs up and we went to the room. Two-Bit shut off the lights and I went to bed.

I woke up to Dallas getting in bed. "What time is it?" I asked. "Doesn't matter, go to bed." He demanded. He then put his arm around me and I got closer to him feeling his bare chest. He kissed me on the cheek then I feel asleep.

I woke up early in the morning to Two-Bit and Dallas talking. "There is going to be a rumble soon." Two-Bit informed Dallas. "Yeah I know." "We should go." Dally said picking me up and we left.

He carried me all the way home and I fell asleep on his shoulder on the way there. Before I did Two was behind me making funny faces.

We got to the house. My eyes where closed but I heard the door open. "Don't tell me you where at Bucks party." Darry said. "Okay I hate to keep things from you but if it's what you want I guess I will." Two said sitting down turning on the tv. "Really? You seriously took my kid sister to a party? She is 7, not 21!" Darry said then there was a knock on the door.

Dally set me down on the couch, then Darry opened the door. It was a women with a nice outfit on and glasses with her hair done up in a tight bun. "Can I help you?" Darry asked. "I came here to talk about Sweet Pea." The lady said then Darry walked outside shutting the door.
