'There's been an accident...' Aaron couldn't breathe, couldn't think clearly, couldn't speak, he didn't realise he was leaning against David, didn't realise that Derek was driving through the streets with the sirens on. He didn't know a single thing, except that they had been an accident.

David guides him through the hospital - Aaron couldn't tell you when he got there, how he was standing up, the moment his eyes met Nathan's, he knew it was over. The young doctor engulfed him into the tightest hug he could, "I-I" Nathan stuttered over his sobs.

Dr Fredricks cleared his throat, helping David guide the small group into a more secluded room, "Agent Hotchner despite our best efforts..." He cleared his throat, tears filling in his eyes, "Your wife died at 11:02 this morning, she had a brain bleed causing by a motor vehicle accident and after saving two civilians lives, she passed peacefully sedated in our OR, I am so sorry for your loss"

Aaron's screams of anguish made the room flinch, David tried to grip onto his brother the best he could, it reminded him too much of his blood covered cries from Hayley's tragic death. They wasn't a dry eye in the area, until Spencer ran in with a sweaty forehead, Anastasia right behind him with Amelia in her arms.

"What happened?" Spencer questioned, gulping slightly as he looked around at all the broken faces of his family, "What...?" His voice lowered into a whisper.

Aaron forced himself to stand a little straighter, letting go of Nathan and David's embrace, eyes falling onto Spencer, "Your sister-" He cut himself off with another sob, launching himself onto the younger Agent and holding him close, "She's gone"

"What?" Anastasia whispered, holding onto Amelia a little tighter, "Gone? What do you mean, gone? She's left or-no" She shook her head in realisation, tears filling her eyes, "No-no! Averie Hotchner survives everything"

"Bella, come here" David murmured, offering his arms to the young psychiatrist, holding both her and his goddaughter close, "She's gone" He pressed a kiss to both girls heads.

Spencer couldn't bring himself to move, to wrap his arms around Aaron, to offer any support at all - he was in pure shock. His sister. Averie? He'd seen her yesterday, the two looked over baby names together as they joked about how he'd be a godfather... how-"No" Spencer cleared his throat, "No she can't, I can't, no, no, no!" His voice raised, "No"

Aaron's eyes searched for his daughter, another sob falling from his lips when he looked at the infant, everyone had always said she looked just like him, but lord knows she was a spitting image of her mother, "How do I tell my daughter her moms dead?"

It was a loaded question, one nobody knew the answer too, tears continued to flow down everyone's face as Aaron struggled to hold his daughter in his arms, peppering kisses to her forehead, "Mommy loved you so much, Mommy-" His voice broke, "Mommy loved you more then anything in this world, I loved her so much..." Aaron let out a gut wrenching sob.

"Mr Hotchner, I'm so sorry, but if you want to see Averie you need to do so now, before her body begins to-before she looses herself" Dr Fredricks tried to remain as professional as possible, despite the tears flowing down his cheeks.

It took everything in Aaron to pass his daughter to David, grabbing Spencer by the shoulder, "You can say goodbye if you need too", the young Doctor nodded rapidly, leaning into his boss' chest as he cried.

It's an agonising walk through the hospital, only two minutes but it felt like eternity to the two men. Aaron couldn't breathe as he entered the patient room, the blinds all drawn and his wife laying deathly still on the bed. "She looks like she's sleeping..." He whispered, "I didn't think-I-I'd have made her stay at home, I should've made her stay at home"
