I sighed softly as I looked at a popular wedding venue online. JJ had come to me the day after Kingsley was born and told me that he wanted to surprise Leanna with a real wedding ceremony for Valentine's Day. It was still six months away, but JJ wanted it to be special, and special things took time. I looked at Kingsley to make sure that she was okay. She was in her swing in the living room, sleeping peacefully. Leanna wanted to get some laundry done and meet with JJ for lunch and I offered to watch her. Someone knocked softly on the door to the guest house, and I got up slowly.
"Hey, Melody. I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch together?" TJ had a takeout bag in his hand. I smiled slightly at him and nodded my head.
"Sure, come on in." I moved out of the way for him, and I watched him go into the kitchen. He glanced at Kingsley with a smile as he walked by. "Do you want some wine?" I asked him, going over to the fridge. He sighed and I couldn't tell if he was frustrated with me or something else.
"I would love some wine, but I can't because I have to go back to practice after lunch." He took out some plates and started serving the food. It was just a couple of salads from this place that I knew Leanna liked. "Raincheck?" He asked with a slight smile. He looked up at me when I didn't answer.
"I just don't know if that's a clever idea." I was still closed off after what had happened with Jacob. TJ was nice and sweet and totally dreamy. TJ was the type that I would want something serious with and I honestly didn't want anything serious. Ever. Something serious meant that I would be open to getting my heart broken again.
"That's okay. I get it." He offered another small smile, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. He was getting good at hiding his emotions.
Leanna's POV
I chewed on my nails as I waited for the game to start. I was a month postpartum, and I wasn't going to come today, but both Melody and JJ convinced me to be here. I didn't have to come for every game, but I should at least be here for the first one. Melody was at home with Kingsley. He was hiding it, but I knew that TJ was disappointed that Melody wasn't here.
"Hey, Leanna." One of the other football wives smiled as she moved into the seat next to me. Her name was Rebecca and she had been nice to me since the beginning. "It must be awkward to see your old team playing against your new husband." She smiled at me.
"Not really. I thought it would be, but now that I'm here, I feel like I'm where I'm meant to be." I smiled back at her.
"How's the baby?" She asked, running her hand through her hair. She had a year-old boy herself and a 4-year-old girl.
"She's doing great. We had some issues with little jaundice when we brought her home from the hospital, but the doctor said that was normal. She's with my sister right now. My sister loves her and she's good with her. I have pictures." I pulled out my phone to show her.
"Oh, Leanna, she's beautiful. She looks just like you already." She tucked some hair behind her ear. "As soon as she gets big enough, we'll have to arrange a playdate with her and Bryce."
"I'd love that. I'm sure that Kingsley would love that too. She's such a happy baby. Very social like her dad." I told her as the game was starting. I loved having Rebecca with me for games because I had someone to hold my hand when JJ got hit and I was there to hold her hand whenever her husband got hit as well.
It ended up being an incredibly close game. We only won by three points. There was an aftergame party, but I really wanted to go home to Kingsley. I missed her and my breasts were starting to really hurt.
"Go, have fun." I insisted on JJ for the 50th time. "Your brother will be there to make sure that you won't go overboard. You don't have to stay long. Just go and have fun with your friends. I insist." I fixed the collar on his shirt. We were standing outside of the locker room, and he had just gotten done showering.
"Okay, fine. I'll only go for a little while. I will be home as soon as I can." He kissed my cheek and I smiled at him.
"I love you." I brushed his hair to the side with my fingernails and he just looked down at me with the same look of love he gave me on our wedding day.
"I love you, too. I'll be home to my girls as soon as I possibly can." He planted an incredibly sweet kiss on my lips and then went to go meet up with his brother.
"Hey, Leanna. I'm not going to the party either. I could pick up some food and come over for dinner? I could bring the kids and the two of us could have some mommy time?" Rebecca offered and I smiled at her.
"That's a great idea. Are the kids allergic to dogs at all?" I asked, thinking of Milo and Toro. She shook her head. "I also have a pool if they want to go swimming or something." I offered and she smiled.
"Great. I'll see you in a little while." She touched my arm and then headed to the parking lot. I really needed to get home and either pump or feed Kingsley before I exploded. I drove home, singing along to the radio, and pulled into the garage.
"Hey, Melody." I walked into the kitchen where she had Kingsley in her bouncer on the table and she was making a cup of tea.
"Hey, Lea. That was a close game. How was it in person?" She asked, not batting an eye as I grabbed my pump. Kingsley already had a bottle in her mouth, being held up by a blanket. I didn't mind, it was her time to eat, and Melody was on top of it.
"It was a real nail biter. I was lucky that I was able to sit with Rebecca. Speaking of Rebecca, she wants to bring her kids over and offered to bring dinner. I hope that's okay." I smiled at Kingsley as I bounced her a little. She swung her arms, and I could tell that she was happy to see me.
"It's your house, Lea. If you want me to watch the kids while you have a couple of glasses of wine, that'd be fine too." She offered as she wiped down the counter.
"I'm waiting until my birthday for my first drink. Trust me, I want it, but I'm waiting. I must dump whatever I pump, and I want to make sure she has enough before I do." I shrugged my shoulders and Melody smiled.
"I get it. Is there anything I can do to help?" She asked and I shook my head. She had already done enough by babysitting Kingsley during the game for me.
"No, you don't need to do anything else. You're welcome to join us for dinner too. I insist." I smiled at my little sister, and she smiled back at me. I was glad that she moved with me here.
