Childe woke up, splitting pain in his head as he yawned. His ginger-colored hair was a mess, and there were slight bags under his eyes.

He was extremely tired. Now, this wasn't out of the ordinary. He was usually up playing video games or watching videos. But, the thing is, he wasn't doing any of that. He was thinking about something specific. Or, rather than something, someone.

And that someone was, of course, Venti; his best friend. Or, well, 'best friend'. Childe's mind was filled with a completely different view of him.

To explain, Childe liked Venti. As more than just a friend. He has for a while now, and nothing seemed to be changing that any time soon. Well, except for one thing. And that certain thing was Xiao, Venti's former enemy.

It had become pretty obvious to Childe, it seemed he's the only one who's realized yet. Xiao liked Venti as well.

The constant staring, the slight blush dusting his cheeks as he exited the room with the other, the way his monotone expression immediately changed into a much more warm one. And, finally, the thing Venti said yesterday.

Xiao had gotten visibly upset at Venti congratulating him for getting a 'girlfriend'. This just confirmed Childe's theory. He couldn't believe he hadn't noticed until now.

To be completely honest, it kind of looked like Venti liked Xiao in the same way. It's been getting pretty clear now. Venti isn't like that with anyone, not even his best friend. So why would he be like that all of the sudden with his old 'sworn enemy'?

Well, there was only one explanation. Maybe that 'straight male' wasn't exactly straight.

Childe had tried to convince himself so many times before, that the only reason Venti didn't like him back was that he was a man. That all his chances were ruined because Venti was straight.

That's the only conclusion he could come to at such a young, naive day in age. But now, all of that changed. Because of Xiao.

It was unfair. Xiao was a man too, so why not Childe? He's been waiting for the moment for so long. He's cried so many times in secret and acted as if nothing happened the next day.

But, deep down, he knew it still bothered him. Especially when he was slowly getting replaced by Xiao by the day. Venti doesn't even look Childe's way anymore. It wasn't fair.

Wasn't fair.

Wasn't fair at all.

Childe didn't want to go to school today. He felt like he was about to throw up.

He didn't get what was so special about that guy.

He knew he shouldn't blame Xiao. Because, initially, Xiao didn't do anything wrong. He was just there.

Maybe Childe just wanted someone to blame for his misfortunes because the only replacement for the sadness he felt was anger. Even if it was selfish.

-

Childe didn't go to school that day. When Venti texted him, he gave the same excuse he always did to skip school. He was 'sick'.

Of course, that was a lie. Well, maybe not entirely. He was sick, but not physically, or mentally.

He sat in bed silently. His eyes couldn't help but follow the moving ceiling fan that he couldn't even keep up with.

That made sense, though. He was always last to catch up. He turned to his side.

He hated this feeling. Why did he have to be born this way? Born to get himself feeling heartbroken by another man. It was pitiful, really.

Of course, he still blamed himself. Blaming anyone else would be selfish, right? He'd never thought to say 'it's no one's fault'. If no one was to blame, then what was the point of being so upset? That's what Childe thought, anyways.

He realized that maybe he shouldn't just be lying around silently with that same monotone look in his eyes. He'd wondered why Venti still even texted him asking why he wasn't at school. It's not as if Venti would walk with him anymore, or even speak to him.

As soon as the bell rings it seems Venti bolts towards Xiao, asking if he wants to walk back with him or hang out. Anyone could tell, they're 'best friends' now.

Even if there seemed to be a small strain in their relationship, that would most likely pass. And Childe would be left, once again.

He couldn't help but let out a small laugh. What's got him being so idiotically edgy? Shouldn't he be happy for Venti instead of bitching about it? God, he's selfish. He's been trying to be happy for Venti before, but alone he acts like a complete wreck.

He really should be happy. Why isn't he? Why is he upset? Why is he angry? Why is he so selfish?

A/N; short chapter yaaa, Ik a lot of y'all are gonna be mad at me for making Childe have a crush on Venti. But dw, Childe isn't gonna get in the way of Venti and Xiao or anything. It just adds some more plot and view of the other characters. Cuz they have feelings too, y'know? Also, I felt bad making Childe act borderline homophobic lol
