...riiing

jungwon anxiously bit his nails as he waited for an answer, it was currently 10:38pm and he still couldn't locate riki. the only thing he could do was pace around the house waiting for jay to pick up.

his thoughts were blurry and messed up, the only thing he could clearly visualize was the devastated look on riki's face.

"i'm such a shitty friend..." he murmured, unaware that the older had already answered his call.

"jungwon, babe, you okay?"

"y-yes fuck... you scared me" jungwon yelped clutching his chest, it was obvious the younger boy was on edge.

jay heard him sigh before speaking, "i need you to come over like, right now"

"wh-what, now? wonie it's pretty late to go and-"

"i'm not trying to get in your pants jongseong, i seriously need your help with something but i can't say it on the phone"

jay laughed "i wasn't gonna say that, i meant with all the stuff that's happened lately" he explained, "i'm not really in the mood to hang out"

jungwon frowned, remembering jay's situation. if he told him what was going on he'd probably think it was some kind of sick prank, maybe it wasn't a good idea to take this risk now.

"i'm sorry, please forget i said anything" jungwon whispered excusing himself. then, just as he was going to end the call, jay spoke up.

"no no its fine really, you said you needed my help, i'll be there in 5" he announced, "i love you, jungwon"

"i love you too"

call ended

"this isn't a joke, is it? cause it's not funny"

"i know i sound batshit crazy but you have to believe me, i was able to see riki up until this morning. we got in a fight and he disappeared but i'm sure he's out somewhere, he can't move on yet" jungwon muttered as he frantically searched around the living room.

"move on?"

"he's stuck on earth until his wish gets fulfilled, he can't reincarnate otherwise"

just as the words left his mouth, jay's expression changed completely. jungwon was unable to tell if he was sad, worried, or maybe even angry. it wasn't clear, but something was definitely off about him.

suddenly, the older spoke up.

"do you have any idea where he might've gone to?"

"i think so, yeah"

"good, i need to ask him something"

and so their search began.

the pair left the house, flashlights in hand as they walked away. they soon left the neighborhood, heading towards the forest nearby in hopes of finding the phantom boy.

"are you sure this is the right place?" jay asked, pushing away branches and other things that got in his way.

jungwon didn't answer, he only kept muttering to himself while walking in a fast pace, nearly leaving jay behind.

c'mon...

where is that thing?

it should be here somewhe- yes!

"jay-ah, i found it!" he waved excitedly at the older, "the big oak tree near the lake, the place where riki died!"

jay raised a brow at him, "you seem oddly happy about it"

"i didnt meant it like that, just help me search!" jungwon exclaimed, jay chuckled at his reaction and continued looking for the boy.

the pair took separate ways, walking around the lake while calling the name of nishimura riki and completely disregarding the fact that neither of them could see him.

jay had to admit he seriously doubted jungwon being for real about this ghost thing, but if there was even the slightest chance that riki was here in this forest, he had to know...

where did his brother go?
