Chapter 16: The treat he had

"ARE YOU COMING OR NOT?" Misty asked for the hundredth time while standing in the hall, waiting for Ash to come down for the last few minutes.

She was taking him out for a treat, as she had promised. As was taking a little longer than usual to come down.

"Just a minute." Misty heard a reply. After which, Ash came down.

"Good. I was starting to think you died." Misty told him sarcastically.

"You won't get rid of me so easily." Ash told her, smirking.

"We'll see." Misty playfully rolled her eyes as she walked out the door. Ash followed.

"I was wondering, how are you gonna treat me if people can't see you?" Ash asked her.

"You eat, I pay." Misty said. "I mean, I'll pay but you just gotta act like you did." She explained.

"I don't think people are that stupid though." Ash stated.

"Then, we'll have to make them look stupid." Misty casually replied.

Ash nodded. "Cool."

"There was no point in you treating me anyway. I don't eat." Misty told Ash who was sitting in front of her, eating the starters.

"Hmm, no wonder fate wanted me to win." Ash smirked as he munched down on his food.

Misty just smiled slightly.

No one could see her. Ash had an earpod in his ear, so when he would be talking to Misty, it would seem like he was talking to someone on the phone.

The manager came and took Ash's further order.

"Tell me, how are you gonna pay for this?" Ash asked Misty as he waited for his food. It was kind of awkward to be eating alone in front of someone, but he had no choice.

"The investigation pays well." Misty replied casually. Ash still had a question roaming around in his head.

"I take how much I need, and the rest is given to the needy. Lucas does all those things. He's the only one who can change into a human form here." She explained, clearing Ash's doubt.

"Oh, okay." Ash nodded, his food came to the table.

He ate silently, short conversations arising from time to time. He never missed a chance to pursue Misty to eat something.

"I don't have an appetite right now, Ash." Misty answered. Most of the time, she didn't have one. "Besides, I can't eat that."

"Why?" Ash asked.

"I don't eat human food, that's it."

"What do you eat then? People?" Ash asked curiously.

Misty glared at him. "There's a different kind of food available for the dead."

"But you're a living soul!" Ash debated.

"But also dead." Misty continued his sentence.

There it was, their most common debate topic. Both knew no one would win that.

"You can at least eat something Misty. It won't do anything, will it?" Ash told her. "For me please? To ease the awkwardness?"

"You're getting awkward? Alright, I will look away. Eat peacefully." Misty said as she spun around, turning away from Ash.

"I didn't mean that- come on! Just one bite." Ash pleaded with her, giving her his puppy dog eyes look when she turned her head back to look at him.

"Fine, one wouldn't hurt." Misty said as she turned around again. The good thing was no one acknowledged the chair moving a bit. She took one French fry from Ash's plate and stared at it.
