The punishment

The police car was so tight, Devan tried to turn to the other direction when the man who drove the car shouted "Hey! Stop that, you are hitting me from behind!" Devan stopped and looked at the rearview mirror, "It's not my fault, you could have put me in a bigger car!" The men in the front started to laugh, "Well now we are here, you better prepare for your punishment." 

The men walked out from car and took Devan under his arm and pulled him to another two men which led him to the court. Devan looked at all the men and the women who sat next to the judge, which was an woman. 

"My dear young man, you have committed a murder that we will soon put a punishment. What have you got to say for yourself?" Devan looked at the women and answered "Well before I say something about myself I would like to say that you look very nice tonight." The police man who stood nearest him gave him a smack om his head, it didn't hurt but Devan could feel the stinging sensation. "Dear boy, if you think you can outsmart me with you charm, you are wrong." 

He looked at the judge with smile. "Well, a man's gotta dream." The judge gave him a smile in return and said "Well, I actually have another idea." The doors open and a little girl, around six or seven, stood next to him and looked at the judge. "This is Lilith, a six year old girl who have lost her mother to cancer just a day ago." 

Devan looked down at the little girl and then back to the judge, "What does it have to do with me?" The judge took some papers from her desk, "It says here that you two are kind of related to each other. You are her godfather." 

It was quiet a second, then Devan looked up to the judge, "What are you talking about? I was never a godfather to her or to anyone!" The judge took the paper and gave it to him. "It says right here that you are her godfather. Also, it says so in her mother's and father's testament, that if they die you are going to be taking care of her." 

The audience started to talk and it was a stressful atmosphere, "But ma'm, you can't be serious?" One of the police men asked and looked at Devan with a hateful look. "That's why she is gonna have a guardian with her." The judge said, and an old woman got up from her chair. "I am Adelia, and I am gonna take care that you are doing your job and not hurt the girl until you are clean from your past as a criminal." 

Lilith looked up to Devan and then fast looked down when he saw that she was looking at him. " I will end this meeting now and I will get you three a ride home." The judge said and walked to one of the police men. The man who held Devan went closer and whispered, "If you hurt the girl, I will personally break your neck." 

Devan saw the anger in his eyes but decided to not say anything. The three sat in the car, "Hey I just realized, I am living now with a girl and an old dinosaur..." Devan said and waiting to someone would laugh but instead got an angry look from Adelia. Suddenly Lilith started to laugh, "Well someone has humor in this car at least!" Lilith couldn't stop laughing and Devan couldn't hold to form a smile on his lips.
