"come here kids"he called to both of us.

We walked slowly to him and he held our hands,mum sat at the couch deep in thought and I wondered what was happening.dad wanted to say something but stopped,he turned to Kyle and called him.

"Come here child."dad called making Kyle throw his head back in frustration.

"Dad,stop calling me that, I'm not a child."Kyle said walking up to us.he got closer and nudged me a little,I looked at him and he mouthed a good morning, smiling I playfully glared at him and he raised his hands a little in surrender.

"I'm getting information that the men who invaded our home are bringing backups."dad said making Ann gasp a little.

"Information from who?"I asked confused.

He stared at me for a while "police.i got the police involved and I was informed that they are making a plan and bringing backup,they are coming back."dad said finally looking at all three of us.i looked at my siblings and Kyle seemed to be in thought,Ann looked shocked with her hand covering her mouth,but no one had the expression that I had.confusion.

"Coming back for what."I asked clearly confused.

He sighed,and came closer to me"child...."he stopped as the sound of his ringtone reverberated through the large living room.

He picked up the phone, listening to whoever was on the other line,his expression changed to one of great anger.when the line went dead,he took deep breaths to calm himself.

"Come with me kids,I need to show you something."dad said leading the way as he climbed up the stairs and we followed behind."if ever you are being attacked,or you find yourself in danger,there is an escape route i need to show you,it would lead you outside the house,by the side."

Me and Ann exchanged shocked look as we were both walking side by side.as if on cue,we turned looking at the one rebel following behind us.escape route was something Kyle would have an idea of.but the look on his face was different from what I expected.he looked shocked when I expected him to have a smirk on his face.

Pushing past us, getting a 'hey' from Ann,he ran closer to dad, walking side by side with him.

"A secret room?you didn't tell me about any secret room.for how long have you had this secret room?."Kyle asked.

Dad smiled coyly, putting his hands into his pockets,he spoke calmly."tsk tsk tsk,how many questions.which one should I answer?"he asked looking at Kyle with that smile on his face.

"Alright then, I'll answer all.one, it's not a secret room child,just an escape route.two,I don't have to answer to you,you are not my father."dad said stopping in his track as he glared at Kyle making me and Ann laugh.

"And thirdly,since the day you were born."dad said smiling.

"So,so..."Kyle stammered,"for the past...."he couldn't finish his sentence.

"Yes son,for the past eighteen years,you had no single idea."dad said as he began walking up the stairs.kyle stayed still, dad's words vibrating in his head.

Ann walked past us,and I followed with Kyle behind,dad seemed to be heading to the room me and Ann shared.

"Dad,why are we in this room?"Ann asked confused.

Dad walked to the end of the wall close to the wardrobe,tracing his hands down slowly on the wall where the wardrobe ended,he looked at us to make sure we were watching.he got to the end of the wall,almost reaching the ground,he pushed a part of it inside and the ground opened.

"Woah!"Kyle muttered,we were all shocked,mostly me and Ann, because this was the room we spent our entire life in and we didn't have any idea about this.Ann moved forward bending down and staring at the wall,she traced her hand around the part of the wall that went in,she stared at the opened ground and smiled.

"I'm Impressed dad,this is something I thought could only happen in films but this is happening right here in my room."Ann said shaking her head in disbelief.

"Our room."I said correcting her "this is unbelievable!"standing behind Ann,I tried to look down,but I couldn't see anything because it was dark,but I could tell there were steps.

"Now I see why it's in their room, I'm sure if it was in mine, I would have found it."Kyle said his smirk back on his face "let's go, I'll lead the way."he finished walking towards the opening in the ground,but he got pulled back by the hoodie by dad.

"Hold on, don't get distracted.follow me,this is important."dad quietly said, taking a torch,he started walking down the many stairs in the opened ground and we followed,when we were all down he turned to us.

"You see this button?"he pointed to a button on the left side of the wall and we nodded "once you press it,the ground up above closes,so nobody gets a hint that you are down here."he said pressing it and I looked up as I watched to ground close above us.

The place was dark except for dad's torch being the only source of light,he started walking and I could see it was like a shallow passage,I followed behind folding my hands as the thought of cockroaches climbing my body made me shiver,we kept on walking through the long passage until he stopped near a step,this one not as many as the other one,he climbed up and I saw there was another door,this one almost the size of a window but it was made of wood. putting the torch in his mouth,he held the two handle on the door like window and opened it, walking out he waited for us to come out. 

I came out, squinting my eyes as I tried adjusting it to the brightness of the sun.dusting my clothes,I stopped as I saw my surroundings,we were standing by the side of the road that led off into the big city.i turned and looked back at our house that was far away.

"Woah!this is amazing."I said struck by what just happened.

Ann moved forward, looking straight at the house,she screamed waving "yay,mummy!"she shouted.l followed her gaze and looked at the house,mum was watching through the window of her room,and I didn't know if she could see us,but she did.she waved back at us, giving us one of her best smiles and it made Ann jump in ecstasy and wave back with all the strength she could muster.

"She's the reason why they still refer to us as babies."Kyle said nudging me.i giggled,but I also wanted to do it, bringing my hand up,I waved slowly and mum waved back at me her smile getting big.kyle looked at me shocked "you too,I can't believe this."he looked away,but after a while,I saw him raise his hand and wave also.

"Now that you have seen the escape route,it can lead you out and into the city."dad said and we all turned to him "now if you will excuse me,I need to go have breakfast."dad said opening the door and climbing down,he closed it and I saw the door was covered with grass making it hard for any body to know there was a hidden door on the ground.

Kyle walked towards me and Ann, throwing his hands over our shoulder he pulled us along as we started walking back home.we got home and headed straight for the kitchen,but we couldn't find mum and dad but there was someone else in the kitchen sitting on the counter,his back facing us.

We all exchanged glances,
