Chapter One
When it comes to the afterlife, humans naturally have opinions on what happens. Many say that one goes to hell for all of the misdeeds that they have done in their life. Others will say that one will go to a good place for all the good deeds they had done or accomplished. Some will say that a person simply chooses where to go, while some also say that no one gets a choice and that there is nothing that happens when a person dies. One thing is sure about these claims is that no one truly knows what happens when someone passes. So, to a demon, it wouldn't come as a surprise to find that one would wake up in chains or in a crowd of people walking to their demise...
Macaque awoke, gasping for air as if he had been devoid of it for so long. His fur hackled on his body as he looked around frantically. He immediately went into a wary stance. Where was he? Last he remembered, he was fighting someone. The males awareness of himself kicked in as he gradually started to calm down, taking a few staggering deep breaths while slowly trying to see around him. But all he could detect was darkness.
Everything seemed to be devoid of light. Nothing to be seen at all. The Monkey would squint his eyes, but to no avial, it wasn't helping. He couldn't see anything. The monkey would blink a few times, hoping that his vision would adjust to the darkness, but after a good few minutes, it was safe to say that he would stay blinded by this void.
The demon would let out a huff, clearly not pleased with being unable to see well like this. Macaque would raise a hand to run it through his head fur only to realize that he couldn't see it. He could feel his hand as the fingers went through his hair, and his palm gently slid across his scalp, but he couldn't see it the entire time. In fact, as his curiosity pushed him to glance at himself, when he tried, he couldn't view himself altogether. But, Macaque knew his body was there. The feeling of his limbs moving about, along with his hands touching himself in various parts, reasured him of his unearned uncertainty.
Macaques intuitions became validated through touch, but being completely blind to the sight of himself was another experience... The male blinked a few times again, looking around more. 'Alright, this is pretty... Erie. Let's get some light in here.' The dark-furred male was stationed there for a moment, floating in the pitch void. What he was expecting to happen, was for himself to transform into a lightning bug, to provide some of that said light. But he didn't feel the transformation take place, and when he thought to light the area, it never happened.
The monkey looked over to where he assumed his end was; the light source he was hoping would occur never forming. The male frowned at this. 'Okay...?' Maybe he would try something else then. The monkey would close his eyes, focusing on everything around him. It was silent, deathly silent, in fact.
At this, the male opened his eyes; this was when he realized... For the first time in his life. He couldn't hear anything. From the moment he woke up, he hadn't heard a single peep from someone. No chirping of crickets, no steps from an animal, no cries of death or rage, nothing. The male started to feel disquiet by this fact; clearly, if one could see it, his expression would be ridden with anxiety.
Macaque had not yet been able to comprehend what has going on. He has always had the burden of hearing all the sound of the world no matter what; his hearing was just that tuned in. He tried so many times before to silence the cacophonous sounds only to fail. To not hear anything now was... unworldly. He felt foreign and yet somewhat at peace. And then, a sense occurred. The male's tail flicked; something wasn't right. The dark-furred Macaque looked around before finally, in the distance, the Macaque spotted a tiny speck of light shrouded by what seemed to be thick dark fog. In that moment the demon monkey felt his feet collide with something; it was cold but firm.
