Kicking at the gravel beside the college sign, I watched as a few people made their way out. I heard the loud voice of Asahi Shiina, he was yelling excitedly about something. I turned my back hoping they wouldn't recognize me. Shit, I swore. I forgot they went to the same college.
"Sosuke?" a tentative voice spoke up. The sound of it sending the nerves throughout my body jingling. How did just his voice do that to me? I turned.
Those ocean blue eyes bore into mine. When was it that I stopped seeing the emptiness there? They were full of life. A lost lonely kid screaming for someone to stay beside him. That was only one emotion that was always on display in those eyes.
"Uh, Haru, hey." I muttered. Damn, I sound like a fucking idiot.
"Are you looking for someone?" Haru asked. He blinked slowly, a sexiness coming into those eyes.
"Uh, no, I um, well I was in the neighborhood...." Fuck this was lame. Plus, there was Asahi starring at me like I was some weird fucking stalker!
"Oh." Haru began to turn away. The doorway into his eyes closing. Why couldn't I just tell him I took three trains to be here to see him. A phone rang. Everyone but Haru reached for theirs. We all looked at them. The ringing continued.
"Haru, I think it's you." Asahi said.
"Oh, I forgot I had it." He shuffled the bag in his hands around. Fishing the phone out he muttered a hello into it.
"No, Mrs. Nanase, I'm sure that he told you." A voice could be heard coming out of the phone.
"Mom?" Haru's voice was bland as always, but his eyes... damn when did I start to notice his eyes so much. I saw a world of pain, fear, longing spring into them. This is bullshit. I blaming Rin for this crap! All he has is stupid romance books around his place!
"Oh, Haru, you picked up!" A woman's voice sounded shocked.
"Um, yes, Mrs. Tachibana..." Haru paused when the woman went on.
"Were you expecting your mother to drop in at your house?" she asked her voice dropping notably, but still loud enough for us close to Haru to over hear.
"Well, actually it isn't my house..." Haru hedged.
"Haru, love, I know that. But, well your mother is here looking for you." The woman's voice went on.
"Oh, did I forget to tell her I moved?" Haru asked. I wanted to slap myself in the face, seriously! This guy is probably the smartest person I know, but damn if he ain't clueless as shit when it comes to people.
"Did you, dear?" The voice asked.
"Mmm." Haru looked thoughtful. "I think I sent a letter." He muttered.
"Maybe it got lost. Anyway, do you want to talk to her?" Makoto's mom asked. Did everyone in that family protect Haru? It's not like he is a helpless kid.
"Yeah, uh sure." Haru stated.
"Haru, honey, where are you?" a worried voice cried. "The house is a mess, what are you doing?" she demanded. I took my own phone out. Something wasn't right here. Shooting a quick text to him, I gave him the heads up. He could deal with this better than anyone. I hated how my chest ached at that thought.
"I, uh, I'm in college. I don't live there full time anymore." Haru stated. He began to walk toward the train station. Asahi, Ikuya and I followed like lost ducklings after their mother.
"College? How did that happen? You're not old enough?" The woman stated.
"I'm almost twenty, mom. You missed my last three birthdays." Haru explained, his voice remaining neutral.
