I: SOLANACEAE

"Happy birthday!" Eunji cheered, clapping her hands as the birthday boy in question sauntered into the room. Her platinum hair draped over her slender shoulders in soft curls and crystalline blue eyes lit up her delicate face. The bubbly girl was as small as a mouse compared to the man in front of her.

Hoseok scratched at the back of his head, chuckling nervously at the attention. "Ah, thank you." He had dressed up for the celebration, his dark hair pulled back, only a few strands falling upon his honeyed skin. His bright pink suit paled only in comparison to his twinkling smile.

"Where do you want to go tonight?" Jimin piped up from his position on the couch. "Please don't say Divine again." Despite his protests, his excitement for the night was evident. He'd pulled out all the punches- decked out in a lavish silk suit with his dyed blonde hair perfectly arranged.

"Shouldn't we let him choose?" I interjected. Sure, I didn't really want to go to Divine for the umpteenth time this year, but that was up to Hoseok to decide. It was his night.

"What? I like it there," Hoseok shrugged.

"You like the pretty oracle we always run into there," Jimin rolled his eyes. "Seriously, though, why don't we switch it up just once? Go to the other side of town?"

"Is that a good idea?" I questioned. Though it generally remained an unspoken truth, there was a clear distinction between the west and east ends of town. Here in the West End, was where most of the 'good' Gods took residence. The East End was a beast of its own, inhabited by some less than savory Gods, for lack of a better term. Gods who tended to blur the lines of morality.

"Foresight is my specialty," Jimin winked. "And the only thing I foresee is us having a great time."

"Fine. I'll play along. Let's go to Solanaceae then," Hoseok gave in. He passed a glance to Eunji and frowned. "Y/N, can you help Eunji change? She's going to get eaten alive if she goes there looking so..."

"What?" Eunji cocked her head, eyes blinking rapidly.

"He's right," I sucked my teeth. "Come with me."

I sifted through my closet, searching for anything that wouldn't make us stick out like a sore thumb. "This should be comfortable for you, no?"

Eunji grabbed for the dress I held out to her. A knee-length fitted satin dress in a rosy, pink color. Eunji was, quite literally, the Goddess of Innocence. And her style reflected that title. Nothing wrong with that, of course. It just wasn't ideal for her to walk into a nightclub like that. Not Solanaceae. It would be like bringing a baby lamb to the slaughterhouse.

"I think this is okay," she nodded confidently, though her eyes betrayed her obvious reluctance. "Thank you."

For myself, I selected a simple short black dress with a sweetheart neckline. I figured it would be the best way to keep any unwanted attention away from me. Just another body in the crowd. With any luck, we wouldn't be recognized as Gods. With better luck, we wouldn't run into any either.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" I sighed, rejoining the two men in the main room with Eunji following behind me.

"First of all, you both look gorgeous," Jimin giggled, giving a thumbs up. "Second of all, stop worrying so much. We're just going out to have some fun, nobody will care who or what we are when they are drinking and dancing and minding their own business."

"I hope you're right." There was no point arguing with him further. Besides, Hoseok did look happy despite his initial hesitation, and that was all that mattered.

Solanaceae was everything I'd expected it to be. A towering dark glass building bustling with throngs of people waiting outside in the chilly winter air. The powerful vibrations of the booming music could be heard every time the door opened to let more guests inside. Flashing lights peeked out from under the doorway, but otherwise there was no way of knowing what awaited us.

A shiver escaped my lips, and I rubbed the goosebumps rising on my arms. "Do you think we will have to wait a while?"

"Nope," Jimin smacked his lip. "What's the point of being a God if you don't get to call in a favor every now and again?"

Great. So much for discretion.

Jimin strolled past the line and right up to the bouncer to whisper in his ear. Not moments later, we were waved inside. After moving through a small hallway, we appeared on the main floor of the club. Everything was pure black aside from the glowing purple neon lights. It was sleek and modern, even luxurious in a way. Not what I was expecting at all. Stairs led up to second floor, where we were currently headed following behind Jimin. There, private booths I assumed to be for VIP guests, awaited us.

"This is amazing!" Hoseok gaped. "How did you get us in so quick? Do I want to know? Never mind, don't tell me."

"You all always assume the worst of me," Jimin pouted. "I traded a favor with a God who works here. And don't look at me like that Y/N, he's not a bad guy, he won't ask for something foul."

"Whatever," I shook my head and let out a deep exhale. "Let's enjoy it."

The only thing that flowed faster than the conversation was the liquor. Something about possessing a God's blood made us less susceptible to the effects of alcohol, but we were certainly testing the validity of that theory. We were mostly keeping to ourselves up on the second floor, not daring to go downstairs and mingle with the horde of clubgoers.

"Seriously, thank you for daring me to try something new," Hoseok slurred. "We're coming back here again."

"He's obliterated," I failed to hold in my laughter, exchanging a humored look with Jimin.

"As he should be!" Jimin raised his glass. "To the birthday boy!"

"Cheers!" Eunji raised her glass as well, her cheeks flushed, and voice unsteady.

I looked over to Jimin again, this time with a threatening glare. "You better help me get them home safely later. I will not play the role of the mom friend by myself."

"Yeah, of course," Jimin waved away my worries, and I chose to trust him against my better judgement.

It was at that moment my eyes caught those of another's  who was walking towards our booth. He was staring straight through me with a piercing gaze that was so intimidating my breath caught in my throat. Something about him felt off. I could feel a strange aura emanating out from him. Was he just that scary looking? No, I'd felt this sensation before, though never this menacing. Magic. Was he a God?

"May I join you?" His voice was deep and soothing like a fine bottle of whisky.

"Of course!" Eunji beckoned the man, patting the empty spot next to her.

I opened my mouth to argue with her, but it was too late as the man had already sat down and made himself comfortable. Apparently in her drunken stupor, Eunji had forgotten that we were trying to keep things lowkey. Inviting a stranger to share drinks with us? Not exactly the best play.

"What's your name?" Hoseok motioned to the man who'd joined us.

"You can call me Yoongi," he answered with a gentle smile. It appeared so genuine it was almost enough to make me trust him.

Eunji, Hoseok, and Jimin introduced themselves in turn and I reluctantly followed suit. "I'm Y/N."

"It's our first time here!" Eunji chirped up. "Isn't this place great?"

"It is," Yoongi nodded. "I'm somewhat of a regular. Since it's your first time can I recommend something from the drink menu?"

Eunji shook her head up and down, her eyes widened in curiosity and eagerness. With her agreement, Yoongi stood from our booth and headed down to the bar to grab the drinks. As soon as he was out of earshot and eyesight, I turned my head to Eunji and threw her a pointed glare.

"Are you out of your mind?"
