V: INTERTWINED

I tugged at the satin fabric of Jungkook's shirt, and he stopped in place. I glanced over to Jin and motioned for him to continue with Yoongi to the car, hoping he would understand my gestures. Thankfully, he caught on and shoved Yoongi along, leaving Jungkook and I by ourselves. I didn't want to waste any time getting back to Eunji, but there was something I had to know.

"What's all this about?" Jungkook folded his arms in front of him as he narrowed his eyes at me.

"What is your arrangement with Yoongi?"

"That's none of your business," he replied through gritted teeth.

My gut reaction was to respond back with the same hostile energy he was giving me, but I knew that would only end in him storming off again. "I am trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you aren't giving me anything to work with here."

"You can hate me if that helps," he scoffed. "I don't care about your opinion of me."

His words were harsh, but he couldn't hide the look in his eyes from me. He did care. Maybe not so much about my opinion in particular, but for the opinion of others in general. I was certain there was more to the story than he was letting on.

"Jin asked for my help with the stranger you've been trying to read at Solanaceae," I blurted out. Telling him this was my last-ditch effort to get something out of him. "I agreed in exchange for his assistance with Yoongi. Basically, we're going to be seeing each other a lot more often...so, I'd like to get along."

"He shouldn't have done that; we have things under control."

"Can't you please just be honest with me?" I groaned, my attitude getting the better of me.

"Yoongi's a loose cannon. A fellow God murdered his best friend, so he has a rather strong hatred for them," Jungkook explained in a low tone. "I caught him...very close to killing one."

Deicide. The act of killing a God. It was pretty much unheard of, but it wasn't impossible. However, getting caught was inevitable, and if you were caught- well, that'd be the end for you. So, Yoongi tried to commit deicide and Jungkook stopped him? What'd that have to do with his treatment of humans?

"He works for me at Solanaceae so I can keep a close eye on him," Jungkook continued. "I can't abandon him. He's like a brother to me. I know it's wrong what he does, screwing with people's minds, but I manage it."

"You manage it?"

"Jin always has Yoongi reverse the curses he places and erases their memories. It helps him get rid of the urge and in the end there's not much harm done. I keep him away from Gods so that he doesn't go too far...he gets out of control when they're involved."

Gods, what a complicated situation. I could understand Jungkook's point of view. Knowing that he couldn't completely stop Yoongi from exacting his revenge without hurting him, he chose what he felt was the lesser of two evils. Still, there had to be a better way than distracting Yoongi with human playthings. There had to be a way to mend his mind.

"I can't say that I agree with what you're doing, but I don't know what I would do differently either," I bit my lower lip. "If something happened to Eunji, I would do anything to protect her."

"He's not an evil God," Jungkook sighed. "He just experienced something awful, and it's making him lash out. I need time, but I know I can help him."

"I don't hate you."

"Hmm?" Jungkook cocked his head to the side.

"I don't hate you," I repeated. "I don't think you're a monster, and I don't think Yoongi is either. I'm sorry for judging you before learning the truth."

A gentle smile landed on his lips. The expression suited him much better than his usual grim one. "Thank you, Y/N."

I turned the knob to my apartment and let the three men inside. Eunji was on the couch curled up in a pile of fluffy blankets. The heavy dark circles under her eyes and the lack of color in her face made her appear sickly and frail. She lifted her head unnaturally slow to look at us as we walked in. Her lips began to tremble when she caught sight of Yoongi.

"It's okay, Eunji," I assured her before running over to her side. "He's here to remove the curse."

"Thanks for ruining a good night," Jimin grumbled, emerging from the kitchen. He was staring daggers at Yoongi.

"Jimin, stop," I shook my head. Now that I knew Yoongi's story, I was concerned that if he provoked him things would get seriously messy.

He furrowed his brow at me. "What the hell? You were more pissed than any of us."

"I know, but it's done. Let's just get Eunji better and then they can leave."

"I have to touch her to remove the magic," Yoongi mumbled.

"Absolutely not!" Jimin shouted, moving closer to the couch where Eunji was lying down.

I turned back to Jin and Jungkook. "Is that necessary?"

"Yes," they answered in unison.

I gripped Eunji's hand and nodded to Yoongi to indicate that it was okay for him to approach. She wrapped her fingers around mine painfully tight as Yoongi took a seat next to her. Slowly, he raised his hand to her forehead, and she winced in reflex. He closed his eyes for a few moments, and then I heard a sigh escape Eunji's throat as she collapsed in my arms.

"She will sleep for a while," Yoongi noted before retreating to where Jin and Jungkook were standing.

"We will go now," Jin clapped his hands together. "Y/N, please join us at Solanaceae tomorrow afternoon so we can begin work on our...project."

The three men wasted no time escaping from my apartment, leaving me alone with a fuming Jimin. He held in his anger long enough to help me carry Eunji to her bed and get her comfortable, but I knew he was ready to explode. A silent Jimin was a dangerous Jimin. The calm before the storm.

Sure enough, the moment things were settled he gave me an earful. "What the fuck, Y/N? You're going to see them tomorrow? The man who attacked Eunji and his two creepy sidekicks?"

"Not Yoongi, no," I grimaced. "Just Jin and Jungkook."

"Oh, you're on a first name basis with them?" Jimin huffed. "Your threads are all screwed up and intertwined. What did you do?"

"What do you mean our threads are intertwined?"

Jimin was the God of Fates. He possessed the ability to see invisible threads that existed between individuals. The more threads, the more tangled, the more complex the relationship between them. He couldn't necessarily determine what they meant, but he'd been honing his craft for some time, so he could generally get a solid lead in the right direction. Aside from that, he also had a keen sense of foresight. He couldn't tell exactly what would happen, but he could discern positive from negative. In other words, there was no lying to this man.

"I can tell you are going to play a significant role in their lives," he explained. "I don't know how but I see the threads only growing more entangled."

"I owe them a favor for helping Eunji. They need my ability as the Goddess of Light."

"Whatever you are getting involved in- it feels unsafe."

"They want me to help them read the aura of someone that has been frequenting Solanaceae. Jin said that it feels like a God, but they can't figure it out. Something isn't adding up."

"Why don't I come with you tomorrow?" Jimin offered. "I'd feel a lot better if I could accompany you. Plus, I could try to read the person's threads."

That wasn't a half bad idea. "Just, play nice, please," I begged.

"I'm always nice until I'm not."

"I'm serious, Jimin!" I whined. "I understand that you are being protective, and I appreciate your concern, but they aren't as bad as they seem..."

"I know," he rolled his eyes and placed both his hands on the sides of my shoulders. "Surprisingly, I don't sense malicious intent from any of the three, but I still feel uneasy. Be careful."

"I promise."
