IX: THE VOID
How long have I been running through this abyss? Minutes? Hours? Days? I don't know where I should be running to. There's no exit in sight. Giving up would be easier. Fighting the exhaustion is excruciating. I don't want to do it anymore. No. I have to. There are people waiting for me. Is that light in the distance? Yes. Just a little farther. I'll be there soon...
A loud gasp escaped my throat, dry and painful. My body shot up in bed in a room I didn't recognize. The light creeping in from the curtains was burning my overly sensitive eyes. Where am I and when did I get here? I scanned the room and spotted Jin resting in a chair at my side, sound asleep.
"Jin?" I called out weakly.
His eyes snapped open. "Y/N?!"
"What's going on? Why am I here? Where's here?"
"Let me go get Jungkook," he held up a hand, putting a pause to my slew of questions, before stumbling out of his chair and towards the door.
Left alone in the room, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and attempted to stand. My legs were wobbly and unable to hold the weight of my body. Noticing a glass of water at the bedside, I grabbed for the cup and gulped down the liquid eagerly. I was starting to come out of the haze, remembering what had happened. I'd been training with Jungkook and Taehyung, but everything after that was a blur.
After a few minutes, Jin returned to the room with Jungkook behind him, looking worse for wear. His face was dull, his eyes bloodshot and framed with dark circles. He sprinted over to my side and reached his hand out towards me, but paused just before making contact, and immediately backed away. What was it in his eyes? Fear?
Jin, noticing my confusion, spoke up. "We are at Jungkook's home. You've been asleep for three days, ever since..."
"Since what?"
"Since I used my magic on you," Jungkook finished, rubbing his forehead. "I didn't mean for this to happen; I didn't realize how badly it would affect you. I was trying to be gentle. I swear to you, I never intended to harm you." He was speaking quickly, fumbling on his words.
So, that horrid feeling of inescapable dread was the effect of his magic? It was as though all the energy had been sucked out of my body. And that was him...not trying? He was more powerful than I could've ever imagined, and it seemed like even he hadn't realized that. I didn't blame him for what happened. It was clear by his current state that he felt awful about it.
"We let your friends Eunji and Jimin know about the situation," Jin added. "They've been checking in on you throughout the time you've been asleep. They sent for another friend of yours named Hoseok who was out of town- said he would be able to help heal you. We are waiting for him to arrive."
Ah, yes. Hoseok. Our resident God of Healing. My body ached all over. Though they said I slept for three days, it felt more like I'd been awake for three days. I certainly didn't feel rested. Hopefully Hoseok would be able to help with some of these side effects.
"You can stay here until you recover," Jin smiled.
"Say something, Y/N," Jungkook mumbled.
I hadn't realized I'd been sitting in silence taking it all in. "Oh, uhm, thank you. I don't think I can move so I'll take you up on that offer." I scratched the back of my head and giggled.
"You're laughing?" Jungkook's eyes changed like the flip of a switch from that of worry to anger.
"Yes?"
"I almost killed you!" he shouted. "Why aren't you upset with me?"
"Well, I don't believe you were trying to," I responded meekly. "Besides, now we know more about our abilities. It's a step in the right direction for our mission."
