“Welcome back, Princess Iris!”

We heard the maids say as they rushed to our location

This was the hall within the castle, located in the heart of the capital.

I wordlessly followed the princess walking infront of me as I tried to think what had just happened

It was totally not normal for them to just bring me here, right?

I heard a faint puff sound on my shoulder signaling that devil me had decided to show himself

“you– you ! This is all your fault you just had to go and mess with royalty didn’t you!”

Huh what do you mean?

“Oh don’t look so confused now, did you forget about the little stunt you pulled just a little while ago? You attacked some one from princess’s retinue , it might have been just defending darkness to you , but to them you are just a commoner and it is something that they wouldn’t tolerate for sure!”

I am pretty sure you are over exaggerating

I thought back I walked by various knights and warriors who were armed to teeth

“did you see that! I saw one of the guards clutch his sword tightly when you walked in, We are surely going to be thrown in a dungeon, oh rue the day I got paired with you , I haven’t even-” the demon kept rambling in panic so I tried to tune him out and kept walking

But Seeing some of the knights look at me warily made me grow a little nervous too

I was led by the princess and the white-suited woman to a luxurious room at the top of the castle.

The white-suited woman said she needed to make some reports and went off somewhere, leaving just me, the princess, and the mage in the room.

The princess whispered to the mage onee-san in front of me.

The mage nodded and said to me

“Satou Kazuma-sama, welcome to the castle. You’re a guest, so please make yourself comfortable. Just treat this place as your home and rest easy. This is now your room… Well then, please continue with your tales of adventure! The princess said.”

hearing which the demon me finally stopped panicking

See I told you it was nothing I thought in my mind

The little Demon just looked at me in a deadpan as he had sensed my nervousness too

“Pardon me, could I have a bit of your time Mage onee-san?, this way please.”

When I heard what she said, I went to a corner of the room and gestured for the mage to follow.

“Is there anything I can do for you? And just call me Rain. You don’t need to use honorifics with me. I might be a noble, but I came from a small house that can’t compare with the Dustiness house. As the friend of Lady Dustiness, your status is probably higher than mine” Rain said looking towards me

I don’t think if it was true or not but I can maybe use this to my favour

“I see. Well then, Rain-san, I’ve something to ask.”

“I already said there’s no need for honorifics… Using my name directly is fine too… What do you wish to ask?”

Rain seemed to feel it was a pity for some reason, but I thought it was a bit rude to call an older aristocratic woman I’ve never met before by her name directly.

Also this way I can get in her good books

She is someone with whom the princess interacts with

Also it wasn’t missed by me that the other woman with princess didn’t thought too highly of me so it would be better to gain some allies

I kept one eye on the bored-looking princess and whispered to her

“Um, Rain-san… I hope you can explain the situation… The princess said she’s treating me as a guest… But this feels too much like a abduction” I said hesitantly darting my eyes between the two

“It’s not like that. We’re welcoming you as a guest. This isn’t an abduction.”

No, this is obviously a kidnapping Is what I wanted to say out loud but didn’t

Rain hesitated for a bit but then looked back at the princess and then whispered turning back towards me

“Her highness Iris always restrains herself, acts like a model royal, is obedient, and won’t give trouble to others. This is the first time in her life that she has done something like this. In this city, Princess Iris had no playmates that matched her status and age. Since this is the first time Princess Iris is acting so willfully, can you play with her for a short period of time?”

Chris did tell me to get close to the princess

So say, Didn’t this feel like a very good opportunity to do so?

Seeing us taking time the princess said walking towards us

“I brought you here to get back at Lalatina a little bit for hitting me, it’s sort of a prank, I felt a bit envious after seeing Lalatina and you all having fun together , sorry about the sudden willful request. But Just for a bit, a few days, can you play with me?” princess said looking towards the ground

“I understand. Well then, I’ll tell you about Darkness… Lalatina” I said still not to used to calling darkness by that name and then added “Rain-san, my comrades will worry about me, could you inform them that I’ll be staying here for some time?” I said faking reluctance

Rain nodded her head and walked outside of the room

Leaving only princess and I in the room

Do they not fear that I might do something to her? Not that I would of course but for a young princess to be in the same room as a man so late at night? Would they be okay for a suspicious person they just met to stay with the princess? Well, it only turned out this way because of the princess’s willfulness, but if the king or some other big shot found out?...

I shuddered at the thought
The princess smiled as if she had seen through my worries.

“Father, the general, and Onii-sama have set off on an expedition to the city near the frontlines in the war against the Demon King’s army. If nothing serious happens, it’ll be fine… When it’s just the two of us, just use the usual tone you take with Lalatina – no ,you all address her as Darkness, right? Um, speak to me like how you usually do when you converse with Darkness , also please tell me about all sorts of things outside the castle.”
I started to tell her about all sort off stuff as I didn’t have much of stories left to tell her

From Weird stuff I had found about in axel to craziness of axis cultist with some stories of my life in axel in between

“-Megumin and I had just blocked out the Haunted dolls chasing us, then-” I said telling her about our first day in my mansion

I had changed the details a little to make it seem more scary to keep the princess interested
