You fooled me from the start, when you let me
start to love you. It's like a bunch of broken picture
frames, but the photo still remains the same. And I,
and I thought it'd be easy to run but my legs are broken.
Leaving Tonight // The NeighbourhoodGrowing up in Hawkins, life was as normal as it could be. Moonie Carver was taught to be obedient, kind. She was supposed to give out second chances like they were rusted down pennies she found on the sidewalk. She had to be fragile. Nothing but a simple minded girl that more than likely couldn't handle a serious situation if her life depended on it. But fret not, that was just how she survived. That was just how she lived, how she got around. If everyone thought you were weak, the last thing they would expect is for you to be strong.
On the Fourth of July, Moonie witnessed something that changed her life.
Her mother died, but it wasn't really her. That was what she kept repeating to the police when they questioned her. For twelve hours straight. That wasn't my mom. After that, her father gained custody and took his daughter back. Back to the suburban neighborhood filled with people trying to prove themselves worthy. Back to her brother Jason. Back to the truth. And suddenly, pretending to be weak got a lot harder than it used to be. Because now, more than ever, Moonie wanted to be strong.
She wanted to do what was right.
