THE SUN WAS BRIGHT WHEN SHE OPENED HER EYES. The harsh rays flooded in through the bow window that looked out onto a lake, her heavy head slowly raising from the pillow. Except it wasn't her pillow. She wasn't even on a bed. She was on a couch, an uncomfortable one, at that. And it hit her like a brick. Not the sun behind her, but the realization that last night wasn't a nightmare. That it was all true. It really happened. Chrissy Cunningham really, seriously, and violently died right before her eyes. She watched it happen. She didn't move, she didn't try to make it stop. She just stood there and watched her friends body snap.

What a great way to start off Spring Break, right?

The question slipped through her mind as Moonie felt the springs of the couch shift underneath her weight, right elbow pressing into the fabric as she tiredly sat up. Her back hurt, she noticed that first. It took her a second to recall where she was, one eye squinted shut as she rubbed it tiredly while the other looked around the living room. Reefer Ricks. Aka Eddie's supplier. Aka a man that's currently in jail, so that equals as a secure place to hide out. According to Eddie, at least. In fact, if you asked her, Moon had no idea what she was doing. Why she ran, why she didn't just call the cops.

She tried to convince herself that it was because there was no way in Hell that they would ever believe them. But she knew that wasn't the real reason. It was Jason. He was going to blame her, she wouldn't even be surprised if he tried to hunt her down. He loved Chrissy. More than anything. More than his sister, more than his moral code. And now, he would never get to see or talk to her again. He'll never get to hold her, to tell her how much he loves her. In his eyes, there had to be someone to blame. Things couldn't just happen. So, who better to put that on than his own sister?

And inevitably, Eddie.

The house was quiet, and cold. Moonie took note of the thick quilt that was laid overtop her body, one that she didn't remember falling asleep with. It was big, the fabric overflowing onto the floor of the living room. That was when she noticed a figure laying right next to the couch. She realized immediately that it was Eddie against the boards, a pillow tucked underneath his head with the excessive cover awkwardly draped over him. A heavy weight fell off her shoulders at the sight, relief securing around her as she gently snuck out from underneath the haphazardly sewn quilt.

Moonie was careful not to wake Eddie, because she was sure he needed the sleep. Last night, after they drove around for two mindless hours and finally decided what to do, they chose to wait for the sun to rise before falling asleep. Even then, Moonie knew for a fact that she was down first. The last thing she remembered was him getting up to put another movie in the VHS player and she was out before the title reveal. The animated Lord of the Rings film was what he chose, so she wasn't really surprised that she fell asleep first. She was more so surprised that she even fell asleep in the first place, she was convinced that her mind wouldn't stop thinking about Chrissy.
