GIVING IT THEIR ALL ENDED UP LEADING THEM STRAIGHT TO VICTORY. The only unfortunate thing was that Moonie had to leave before she could see it happen, knowing that if she wasn't there for the end of the basketball game then she would regret it. Not because she missed it, but because her brother would make her life a living hell. She knew that to be true when she slipped back through the doors and into the roaring gym, making it just in time to see Jason miss his shot, Lucas Sinclair catching the ball that bounced off the rims and score a winning buzzer beater with it.

When the crowd erupted with applause, Moonie realized Dylan Cornett wasn't anywhere to be found. Not on the bench with the rest of the players. Not even on the court celebrating the championship win as the sweaty Hawkins Tigers swarmed poor Lucas who had disbelief sprawled out across his features. She was practically the only one not yelling, standing out like a sore thing amongst the masses as she searched for him, drowning out the echoing chant of Lucas! Lucas! Lucas! that carried throughout the filled space of the gym.

She was already wishing that she had just stayed where she was meant to be. Right in that hot gym. Moonie had no idea what she thought she was doing when she left, she could feel the self-driven aggravation bubble in her chest. All of it was directed at herself as she watched the basketball players jog across the court, cheering their way into the locker room. Then everyone else started to leave, the bleachers drained of life and ever so slowly, the quiet buzzing that tagged along with the gym was the only company she had.

Nancy Wheeler was the last to leave. She bid a sympathetic goodbye, one meant specifically for Moonie. Everyone knew the girls story, it was practically tattooed across her forehead.

Here's how it goes amongst the halls of Hawkins High and the rest of town:

Jason and Moonie Carver were born out of wedlock. April 9th, 6:39 pm on one stormy evening during the year 1968. Fraternal twins yet they'd never felt more far apart from one another. Of course, this wasn't the story that was passed around. Alice, their mother, was twenty four years old and fresh out of community college. Their father? He was forty one and ran the same old construction company that he does now. Carver Construction, and if you couldn't tell━━ it was passed down to him by his dad.

Rumors started when Alice had her first breakdown. It came out of nowhere for Moonie and Carver. They knew their mom to be happy and sound, sane. Not causing fights in the parking lot over seeing spiders in the cracks. Rick Carver called her psychotic, he began to grow fed up of her tarnishing his family's image. Their marriage lasted for one more year before abruptly ending with Rick deciding to split the twins up between them. The girl goes with you, the boy goes with me. It's how it should be.
