Chapter Ten : Lurking in the Dark
EPISODE TWO OF SEASON FOUR
━━━ vecna's curse
THE MOMENT SHE HEARD THE DOOR CREAK, everything went dark. Fear had a tight grip on her, it's venom sunk into her skin, burrowing it's way into her body to fill her whole. A gasp left her lips when she stepped forward and the door to her bedroom slammed shut, the wood splintering against the hinges as a sudden gust of air blew through the space. The curtain fell back into place, allowing the shadows to completely consume her old bedroom. She couldn't see anything. Her breathing became uneven, her chest hastily rising up and down as she whipped her head around for a source of light. But there wasn't any. The sun behind the tapestry over her window had disappeared like it was never even there. She was scared.
"Moonie?" Sang an all too familiar voice down the hallway, growing closer to her bedroom. It was her mom.
"What?" The word stumbled breathlessly from her lips, confusion lacing around her voice. Moonie felt her face tighten, her hands anxiously curling into fists by her side. Her heart only quickened against her ribcage, to the point where she didn't even notice that her body was backing up. Not until she bumped into her nightstand, the items on top clattering to the carpeted floor as her palms moved behind her back to brace herself against the wood.
She stayed quiet, squeezing her eyes shut as she lowered herself to the ground ever so slowly. The carpet was soft, her fingers grasping onto each fiber of the nylon.
Something slammed against the door. She flinched, loud bangs and continuous knocks filling up every inch of the room. Then all of a sudden... everything hit her. All at once. It was that night. All over again. "Let me in! Let me in you fucking bitch!" Her voice swelled like a balloon, popping into Moonies ears as she clasped her arms around her knees. Her mothers fists continued to pound upon the door, her forearms burning like a white, hot pain from the friction of her jeans growing tighter against them.
"I'll kill you! Do you hear me?! I'll fucking kill you!"
In the blink of an eye, the snap of a finger, it felt like she was back there. Fourth of July night, fireworks booming in the distance. But there was nothing but a house full of screaming that night, for her. A house full of terror, death. Just like now, Moonie was locked in her room, curled up in a ball with tears in her eyes and sobs breaking from her lips. Her mom was at the door for an hour that night. Trying to kick it down, trying to get through to her daughter.
"Stop it!" Her voice cracked, throat feeling raw as if she'd been screaming for hours. Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision that'd already been prohibited by the lack of light. Everything was so loud. The room felt like it was shaking when the bulb attached to the ceiling fan began to flicker, her head tensing with a sharp pain as she pressed her palms to the side of her head. But her mothers threats only grew louder.
