25 : The Tanaka Mafia (Sun Tzu's Phrase)

[ NISHIMURA MIU ]

My eyes were glued to the tv screen yet my brain cannot grasp a single thing, "The Nishimura Empire's heiress, Nishimura Miu, was shot by an unidentified man last week. Fortunately, the victim survived and is currently recovering in the hospital. The cause has not yet been disclosed by the Nishimura family but the citizens' speculation says it is related to their business..."

I knew I'd get more popular because of this. The media always has their eyes on us. Whenever we succeed... or fail. It was as if we're being monitored. I always wonder how the world would react once they'd found out of our black business.

Surely, some will throw hate. Some wouldn't be surprised, and some would think it's normal since we're one of those people who holds a disproportionate amount of wealth. It's inevitable for us to rely on something illegal.

I turned my head towards the door when it opened. Jay entered with a box on his hand, my brow arch at the sight of it. He slightly smiled when our eyes met. I exhaled and avoided his gaze. I already pushed him away, why is he still here...

He raised the box before placing it on the top of the table, "Happy Birthday."

Oh. I got so busy recovering, I almost forgot about my birthday, "What are you doing here?"

He raised a brow and smiled cockily, "It's normal for a boyfriend to take care of his girlfriend when she's sick."

"Shut up." I scowled at him and looked at the cake he brought. He pressed his lips together and followed my vision. He noticed that I was looking at the box so he immediately untied the ribbon.

He really has no fear. After I threatened to kill him the other day, he still has the guts to show his face to me. I wonder if he knew that I didn't mean it, at all.

"I don't know what flavor you like, so I just bought the red velvet cheesecake since you once ordered it on our cafe before."

Red velvet is actually my favorite flavor. I looked at him again and it turns out that he's already staring at me, "You remember that?"

He nodded and chuckled, "Of course."

I swallowed hard and looked away. I didn't know he was paying much attention that time.

"The transaction with China was successful, Young Lady. We have transported the 30 kilograms of drugs safely." Hamada Asahi walked beside me. He fixed his glasses and continued scanning something on the document he's holding, "Also, this is not a very surprising news but the Tanaka Empire was the one who attempted to kill you."

I stopped on my tracks and looked at him, "Attempted to kill Park Jongseong." I corrected him yet he shook his head.

"You are their target, Young Lady."

My forehead creased. I was about to ask him about that but I heard a sudden familiar footstep.

"Leave us for a while, Hamada."

"Yes, Master Hideo." Asahi bowed to the both of us before walking away. I took a deep breath and bowed in front of my grandfather.

"I was about to go to your office to discuss something. Good thing you decided to visit the basement, Grandfather." I stated, still lowering my head.

"If it is about canceling your engagement with the Park, then I have to say no."

My eyes widened and immediately looked at him. He calmly smiled like he usually do— no matter what the situation— even though it isn't something to be glad about. "They will keep on using him as my weakness."

"Ah... Miu... how naive of you." He chuckled which made me confuse even more, "You're busy falling in love with that boy to the point where you can't notice anything?"

"What are you saying, Grandfather?"

He exhaled and took a step forward. He stared at me and I almost got goosebumps when he smirked, "There's a saying from a Philosopher I always adore. Keep your friends close... and your enemies closer."

Enemies...?
