28 : Signs (Things Will Get Complicated)

[ NISHIMURA MIU ]

Weeks after the graduation I was immediately promoted as our company's director. Jay was promoted as the CEO, while the position of the chairman is temporarily occupied by our grandfather, since that position is meant for Riki in the future.

The conflict between the Tanaka and Nishimura kept on getting worse. I was the one assigned to handle this, since Riki is still young as per grandfather. He still doesn't know that his grandson is involve of an elite fraternity organization.

I was busy watching the city lights visible through the massive glass window of my office when I heard the door opened. The scent was familiar so I already don't have to wonder who came.

"How are you?" My brother asked. I turned around and saw him comfortably sitting on the couch, "I mean how is the conflict between our family and Tanaka? Do you need my help?"

I shook my head, "You don't have to. Just focus on studying."

He lazily sighed and scratched his nape, "Jay said you're getting stress these days. Isn't it time to ask for his help?"

I looked away, "Why would I ask for his help? He's... powerless... his family is powerless. They even agreed to the merging because their business was in crisis." It was a lie. In all honesty, Jay is powerful even without his parents' help, but because I don't want my brother to get a hint of me knowing about their organization, I acted as if I know nothing.

Riki scoffed, "Do you think I'm stupid? I know you're aware of iustitia servietur already. If you can't ask for my help, ask your fiancé. He'd help right away, anyway."

I gulped. My mouth opened for a bit trying to pronounce a word, I was shocked because of what he told me. He knew, all this time?

"Jay is willing to give up everything for you. It's safe to trust him, Miu because I trust him, too." I always see Riki unserious. He had always been playful and mischievous, but this time, I know he's being genuine.

"I can handle everything alone." I won't still ask for Jay's help. Call me arrogant, I don't care. I want to prove my grandfather that I can handle this alone without receiving an aid from anyone.

He sighed and closed his eyes, "And if you get hurt? Worse, killed?"

I bit my lower lip, "I don't care. As long as it is for the well-being of the empire-"

"How selfish." He sarcastically chuckled, "Admit it, Miu. You're doing this not for the empire, but for yourself. For pride, because failing is something you can't accept. You always think of yourself."
