The next daybreak dawned with crisp, clear air. The first beams of sunlight shone softly upon the forest floor, bringing it to life with bustling early-morning activity. A muted yawn escaped your lips as Loki tapped your side and helped you stand up. His stature was slouched, concerning you, but he brushed it off with a reassuring smile. "How are you feeling?" He asked.
"Okay, for the most part, still trying to fathom everything."
"Yeah, it will take some time."
"What have I missed within the past seven years?" Loki said nothing as his facade dropped. "Loki..."
"...Several wars amongst the nine realms. Multiple rips in the fabric of time causing some things to disappear forever and others to create new beings that bring destruction."
"Was I really on the other side of the village all this time?"
"There's no possible way. You would have had to enter a wormhole at some point. That Jötunn must have fallen into a wormhole for a short time and came out seven years later here...I am truly sorry this happened to you, it was my responsibility to get that damn relic out and I messed up like I always do." Loki sighed.
"You're not entirely to blame. I want you to know that. Please."
He nodded, staring deep into your eyes. "Let's look for something to eat; I bet you're starved!" Loki changed the subject, rubbing the top of your head with his hand.
You peek down at your abdomen and begin to wonder when even was your last meal. "Food does sound pretty nice."
"Come. I know where a fruitful grove is not far from here."
You followed Loki deeper into the woods, leaving behind the little campfire along the ecotone. The hike didn't seem to be very long, but a mere five minutes at the most. He lead the two of you, to a mini spring that cultivated numerous fruits from bushes. Birds simultaneously chirp out to each other in a choir performing a calming, rhythmic tune. The fruit he picked had a yellowish tint and purple-stout spikes all over it and was around the size of a watermelon. Loki cracked it open and passed it to you as if he were a loyal guardian.
"Thank you!" You said gratefully, not sure what you're about to consume.
"It has a fine sweet flavor and aids with hydration. I know so much of these woods now due to hiding out and living amongst the trees."
"I can't believe you've been gone from society so long."
"Don't even feel bad in the slightest, I have enjoyed living far away from society and people. The animals and plants are much better. Though I have missed your company."
"You missed my company?"
"Yes. Even though you're a measly mortal, you've been a treat to adventure with."
After passing the mortal comment by, you took the compliment to heart and felt very happy with what Loki said to you. "I appreciate that. I've loved this journey, even though there have been a few life-threatening, scary moments." You lightly laugh. You take a miniature piece of the fruit which laid in your hands. It tasted hearty and full of juicy flavor and fiber; it was delicious, so you go in for a gigantic bite. After a feast amongst the food, it was time to brainstorm ideas about getting the crystal out. "Do you have enough magic to shapeshift into a regional Vanir?"
"I may have a little bit to last half a day."
"Perfect! Didn't Jon have a bunch of mead horns laying around his house? Maybe if we go to a local pub, they would know his whereabouts?"
"It's a little risky, but who doesn't love mischief?" He said as he turned into a Vanir lady. "How do I lo-" Loki gasped. "I'm a female!" She laughed aloud. "It happens sometimes, ya'know."
Your jaw dropped in shock at first, then remembered he does do that from time to time. "Yeah totally!"
Loki grabbed your hand, her palms feeling a lot softer than normal, it felt odd but you just went with it. In no time, the pair of you reached the edge of Holldalia and start to wander the streets in pursuit of the nearest tavern. You kept feeling stares as you both ambled around...maybe it was peculiar for two, young, innocent-looking women to be out in the open by themselves during a time of war, or the way you two seemed like tourists in Hollywood scouring for the right establishment.
Finally, after three streets and two blocks, you both find a saloon. It was dusty on the inside and reeked of rotten smoke that clogged the air. Several spots were filled at the bar, all eyes on the two of you as you both approach the man standing behind it. "What can I do for you two fine, lovely ladies?" He asked darting the pair of you up and down, checking you out. Loki began to speak and integrate the man. You on the other hand couldn't help but notice the surroundings and the eerie atmosphere it possessed, causing chills to run down your spine. By the time you finished ruminating and admiring the place, Loki got all the information she wanted and stormed out of there angrier than ever. You quickly followed behind.
Loki said nothing as she approached the edge of the village once again. You scream out multiple times to get her attention but fail with each attempt until you reach the community outskirts. One last outcry of "hey" and she whipped around. "The audacity of men! Him calling me a piece of meat! I am more than that!" She screamed with feminine rage.
"Hell yeah you are more than that!" You said in support, "But what all happened back there?"
Loki altered to his ordinary self and substantially settled down. "Jon is a Mead-Maker in the next village south of here."
"Dammit."
"I know, but at least we're closer this time...I hope."
"Me too."
"So let's see...south is, this way!" Loki said as he lead the way.

After several hours of walking, laughing, catching up, and sharing company with each other you two reached a quaint town that seemed to hold a diminutive number of inhabitants. "It looks super rundown." You whisper. "Do you think it would hold an ale factory?"
"There is a chance," Loki said with optimism. "Let's get a better look." Very carefully you and Loki inspect the village without being seen by individuals. It wasn't long until you could smell the fresh scent of yeast and you knew the mead mill was near.
