"I'm going to tell Kamsi that you didn't buy me ice cream." Chanah grumbled beside Chetachi, as they walked towards Chikamsi's house.
He rolled his eyes at his junior sister's tantrum."Chanah, the Pink Dessert House hasn't opened yet na," he explained earning himself an eye roll and a cute glare from the six year old.
Chetachi fought the urge to smile, apologizing to her instead. They reached a junction and Chetachi took her hand in his, so they could safely cross the road. She squirmed in his hold, he ignored her, dragging her along with him, they crossed the road and entered the familiar purple cobblestone street.
Chikamsi's house was a few blocks down, they reached the road and walked up to an ivory colored building with brown designs, he pressed the intercom on the gate, and said his name.
The automatic gate slid open and let them in."Kamsi"the little girl squealed when she saw Chikamsi.
A look of confusion crossed Chikamsi's face, Chetachi hadn't told her he was coming with his little sister. She didn't have time to ask him, as Chanah ran up to Chikamsi and threw her arms around the older girls waist.
"Chanah how are you doing" she asked stroking the younger girls hair.
She murmured something into Chikamsi's stomach and Chetachi rolled his eyes.He walked into the house, deciding to wait for Chikamsi in the parlour upstairs while she and his sister completed their reunion.
Chetachi had settled down and brought out some textbooks, in preparation to teach Chikamsi when someone cleared their throat loudly behind him.
"Young man" a voice called, startling him. They had never really been on the wrong foot, Chikamsi's mother and himself, but with the way she looked at him right now, he wasn't sure.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, adding to his discomfort.
His hand went to the back of his neck as he wondered why Chikamsi hadn't told her mother they were having lessons."I repeat, what are you.."
"Ma we're about to have lessons?" He offered, his voice going an octave higher at the last syllable, making it sound like a question.
"It's rude to interrupt your elders" she huffed raising her nose in the air.
They broke into laughter and Chetachi got up to hug her."Aunty, I came here to lecture Chikamsi for today." he said, giving her a brief hug.
She hugged him back, patting his back lightly.
Chetachi returned to his seat, after convincing Mrs Omonigho that he didn't want breakfast.Chikamsi returned upstairs with a crying Chanah who was asking for her phone.
"Tachiii Chikamsi doesn't want to give me her phone." She cried climbing onto his lap, and using his Tshirt to dry her tears.
"So it's no longer Chikamsi you want to report me to abi? You're now reporting her to me?" He asked nudging her as she cried into his shoulder.
Chikamsi laughed quietly and went off to get her books.Chanah buried her head in his shoulder further and mumbled a string of incoherent sentences.
"Oya take my phone" he said taking it off the table and handing it over to her.
She looked at the phone and grimaced.
"Tahcii" she whined again, climbing off him and onto the next sofa.
