“Diana! Diana! DIANAAAAA!” This is what Diana hears just as she collects her math textbook from her locker. She tried to ignore it as it got louder, but it was difficult.

"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear me?" Myra asked when she reached her good friend's locker.

Before she replied, Diana looked around for any sight of her other friends. She didn’t want to receive more shocked and disgusted looks from the people she knew. Diana was glad that the school day was over.Tomorrow she could actually prove that the word going around the school was only a little misspoken rumor.

"Diana, what's wrong?" Myra asked softly, being unsure of her neighbor’s behavior.

Assured it was safe, Diana finally replied. "Nothing. ".

Myra noddedslowly, still being curious but she shook her head as if to shake it off. “I know who. Oh, I'm not taking the bus today. My mom is picking me up" Myra said as she hugged her neighbor good-bye. She and Diana walked away from each other. Diana stopped and turned around caught Myra staring to the left at someone with dreamy eyes. Diana, knowing who that person was, smiled and continued going to her bus.

When she arrived, she ignored the stares and sat at the back with her other

good friends. Diana was safe at the back because she had Naomi, Julie, Sasha and Norah.

Rumor had it that Diana was losing her seat in the popular crowd because of her friendship with Myra, the new girl at Yosemite Junior High School and in Diana's neighborhood. It was against the Yosemite clique rules for a popular person to be friends with someone outside the “circle”.

The reason she became well known was that she is known as The Love Mistress. Diana gives advices to all students about how to get their crush to at least notice them, and it always works.

"Diana, you don't have to be afraid. You got us to kick their behinds if they say another thing about that rumor." Norah told while the rest of the girls nodded. That did make Diana somewhat happier and safer. "Thanks girls." she said.

The girls continued to talk about other stuff other than the rumor when Diana got a phone call.

"Hey Di, it’s Brian".

"Hey Brian! What's up?" she spoke.

"Nothing much. Look, about the rumor thing, there's nothing to worry about".

"I don't want to talk about it or about Myra…"

Diana was suddenly reminded of when she caught Myra staring at Brian before she left. He was Myra's crush!

"Actually, Myra's ok to talk about. It’s not like she didn't do anything wrong, right"?

"Yea, she didn't,”he replied softly but suddenly the volume increased to normal again. Hey, are you going to the New Year's dance?"

"I wouldn’t miss it! You got a date?" Diana asked, hoping that he didn’t.

"No I don't think I'm going this year."

"Whoa, didn't see that one coming. Hey, Myra needs a date and don't worry. She's not that bad…"

"Are you joking, Diana? You are already losing your popularity 'cause of her and you

want me to join you?" he shouted, paused then spoke softly, "Sorry, girl. I can't be seen with Myra. She's a reject. You know the rules. Bye." Brian hanged up, leaving Diana feeling…well, rejected.
