Wanted to do something for mermay! Context, S&M are a mermaid species of some kind. Sun's a clownfish mermaid and Moon's an anglerfish mermaid. You are a scientist who is trying to understand them, but you get close to them in the process and it seems they like you too!

"Doctor, doctor!" A junior scientist ran up to you in a panic.

He pulled on your sleeve and pointed to the lab room at the end of the hallway.

"They're slamming their tails on the glass again! And they keep repeating the word mate and mine." He was tugging at your sleeve more harshly, his voice laced with serious panic.

You sighed as you stood up from your desk, prompting the other to relax slightly. He let go of your sleeve and let you walk towards the far away lab. You could hear the banging from out in the hallway before you even reached the door.

Why must these two always want your attention?

Opening the door, you grabbed the intention of the beings who were causing the loud banging sound. Inside the room was dark, save for the aquarium that filled the wall in front of you. It was dim, able for both of the creatures inside it able to exist together. The sound immediately stopped and was replaced with a happy clicking sound instead. You walked toward the tank and stared at the ones responsible for the ruckus. The ones who were guilty were two fish-like creatures (also known as mermaids). One of them was a clownfish mermaid known as Sun. He was giant (around 10ft) with sparkly orange scales that led into lighter ones. Of course he had the clownfish patterns, but instead of white on the inside, it was a light orange. Ray-like fins encircled his face. His eyes were as blue as the ocean he once lived in and his teeth were similar to a humans, the only difference was the dull fangs he had. The other mermaid was an anglerfish named Moon. He was the same length as Sun and had a long hat-like rod on his head. His body was a blue color that faded into a night sky. Bioluminescent markings lined all around his body.

You turned to face Sun, who had his hands pressed up against the tank with an ecstatic expression.

"Sunny, want to explain to me why you were hitting your tank, again?" You crossed your arms.

The sternness of the question going right over the solar fish's head, Sun began to make more excited clicking sounds even louder and faster than before. Apparently, Sun and Moon speak in their respective fish languages, but you have been trying to get them to speak english. Since Sun's a clownfish, he speaks in popping and clicking sounds, while Moon makes gestures and changes his color based on his mood. Now over the course of you working with them, you have learned a good bit of their language. Not fluent, but not completely in the dark either .

"A gift for me?" The fish nodded.

He quickly swam back into his shared den and came out with the gift. Upon closer inspection, the gift was a coral necklace with a shiny pearl as the centerpiece. Calling it beautiful was an understatement, it was absolutely stunning. Sun's face was flushed as he offered you the piece.

"Sunny, it's beautiful. Are you sure you want to give this to me?" Surely something this beautiful was meant for something important, right? So why was he giving it to you?
