"We can get you some beer Scott?" Chris said taking the subject off me

It happened a lot recently since we got here. My mum would make a comment about me making most of us the table awkward so any distractions were very needed at those situations

"No thanks"

"Shot of tequila?"

"Dad? Really?" Allison asked. Her dad had always been protective over her and boys, usually not like this but he was just doing his job as a father, trying to see if he's right for her

"you don't drink Scott?"

"i'm not old enough to"

Victoria:"that doesn't seem to stop many teenagers"

"no but it should"

Mum: "Good answer, a total lie but we'll played Scott. You may survive the night"

"Gosh" I mumbled inaudibly at my mom but I noticed Scott look at me with a confused and knowing look

Did he hear that?

We both made eye contact as he looked at me and once he figured out I knew he heard i him he quickly turned away

"You ever smoke pot?" Scott choked on his water and my mum raised her hand wanting to keep Scott out of trouble by saying something he would regret later on

"okay changing the subject to something a little less Conservative. So Scott, Alison tell us that you're on the lacrosse team. I'm sorry I dont know anything about that. How do you play?"

"Uh well you know hockey?" mum hummed along trying to make it seem she was at least partly interested in what he was saying
"It's a lot like that only played on grass instead of ice"

"Hockey on grass is called field hockey" Allison's face hardened at her dads words. I could tell she was mad at him for tonight by the annoyed looks she would send me

"Oh, yeah" Scott mumbled awkwardly

"so it's like field hockey except the sticks have nets" Allison explained and Scott agreed just before his phone went off

"And can you slap check like field hockey?"

"Umm... yeah but it's only the gloves and the sticks"

"Sounds violent. I like it"

"Scott's amazing too, dad came with me to the first game. Wasn't he good?" Allison said and her posture straightened out as she got exited about Scott and his games

"He was fine"

"He scored the last shot. The winning shot"

"True but he didn't score at all till the last few minutes"

"His last shot ripped a hole through the goalies net. It was incredible!"

My mind went blank for a moment

He could hear me

He was strong enough to rip a whole through a net
