Benny's POV

I am furious. If I just heard her correctly then I've been wrong this whole time. I've hurt my friends all for a girl who was lying to me for the majority of our relationship.

I follow in the footsteps of her annoyingly loud heels.

"MICHELLE!"

She doesn't stop running. She soon makes her way to one of the girl's bathrooms. She rushes in and I stop in my tracks. I can't go in there, that's not polite.  So, I wait. I wait for about five minutes. I didn't see one girl go in or out in those five minutes so I just put my hand over my eyes and walk in.

"If any girl is naked or doing whatever girls do in bathrooms, that I or you would wish that I don't see. Speak now, or forever hold your peace. Five...four...three...two...one!"

I take my hands off my eyes to see Michelle staring back at me from the sink counter. She looks like she's been crying and as much as I don't like seeing that, I'm mad. I look at her expectantly, but she just hangs her head low and plays with the hem of her dress.

"I'm sorry."

She whispers. I deepen my glare and move forward just a hair.

"For what?"

"Everything."

"Go on..."

"I'm sorry for lying to you and hurting your friends. I'm sorry that you fell for me. I'm just sorry."

"What do you mean hurting my friends?"

" The night of the dance, when I went to the bathroom I cornered Y/n and maybe roughed her up a bit."

She says in a voice just above a whisper. Her hands play with her blonde curls as her eyes stay on the floor.

"You said friends. Plural."

"The guys that beat up Tommy, I told them to. I didn't know he was ten, though. Also the girl that was dancing with Alan, I told her to do that to distract him. And you know all the mean things I've said."

"Oh my god."

"Benny, I'm sorry!"

"Why? Why would you do any of this?"

"BECAUSE I SEE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT HER!"

"Excuse me?"

"You don't-"

Her sentence was cut off by the sound of the bathroom door opening. A younger girl, probably in grade six, stood there with her eyebrows knit together in confusion. She slowly moved her head out the door, to what I assume is check if this is the girl's bathroom or not, and came back in at the same pace.

"I- This is the girl's bathroom, right?"

"Yeah, I'm sorry. We're just having a private conversation."

"Next to... toilets?"

The girl asked slowly.

"It's ok, we're done here anyway. Sorry."

I start to walk to the door, but Michelle immediately follows. She grabs my arm before I make it out the door and for the first time since lunch she looks me in the eyes.

"You don't look at me the way you look at her."

She turns back around and starts to walk into a stall. I know I should've taken that as my cue to leave, but I needed to know.

"Who?"

I could see the way her shoulders dropped just a bit. If I had blinked then I wouldn't have even caught it. With a voice so quiet, I almost couldn't hear the name, she mutters...
