Chapter Twenty-Three

IF I COULD CHANGE ONE THING

I'd tell those envious souls to be contented with what they have.

"My water broke!" She screamed.

She couldn't stand on her legs, she sat back on the couch, her husband was running helter-skelter he didn't know what to pick, he had run in and out three times on the fourth time he asked her "Lade please hold on, am trying to search for the babies bag" he ran inside again "it's on the cupboard! It's inside the big blue portmanteau" she yelled for him to hear, he later bring the bag out and help Lade to the car.

On getting to the hospital the genealogist is not on sit, the midwife on duty was attending to other women in labour. A nurse checked Lade and told her she is yet to be fully dilated, Lade had screamed shouted and cried yet it doesn't ease her pains. Shinaayo has been pacing up and down without knowing what to do, he felt for Lade he wanted to ease her pains if he could, while he heard the women screaming from the labour, a lone tear dropped from his eyes.

"Ayo am in pains! This babies should come out o, tell them to come out o, my back! My back, my back wants to remove, help me to massage my back"

Shinaayo quickly rush to her side to help her massage her back as he was into it, Lade screamed and grabbed his shirt, he lost three buttons from his shirt, he doesn't mind if that will ease her pains, some nurses rushed to his aid and help Lade out of the ward to the labour room.

After a while the gynecologist arrived, he checked on her to know the stage she is and was surprised that she's still at 6mm, he told her to do some exercise, she started going up and down using the rails as support, passer-by greeted and wish her safe delivery.

She saw the woman whom came in after her walked out of the labour room with a nurse walking behind her and carrying her baby for her, she wished for the same. She begin to pray immediately, she was so engrossed in the prayer not knowing her husband and mum had joined her, they prayed for continuous hours yet the it was still the same, Lade was already feeling weak, her mum called on the doctor on duty, he suggest they opt for Caesarean section, her husband agreed to it if it will keep both the mother and children safe, the doctor assured him, he signed the consent form and they wheeled her to the theatre.

After several hours, Lade's mum had prayed till she was tired, Shinaayo sat on the chair with his legs crossed and his hands folded on his shirt, his white vest underneath is soaked with his sweat, on seeing him one would know he's under stress, he look at the door and saw Ayobami as he paced in, he walk towards them and greeted Lade's mum, he made a handshake with Shinaayo and asked him how far, he replied him that they are yet to hear anything news, a nurse rushed out from the theatre room, they rush to ask her how the surgery was going on, she told them to wait for the doctor  and walked into the doctor office, she brought out a cylinder with many tube and instantly they knew something was wrong. After what seems like years when it's actually 2 hours, the doctors comes out and congratulate them.

"Congratulations it was successful" they sigh in relieve.

"How's she?" Shinaayo and Lade's mum said in unison.

"She's fine... actually she out of breathe so we've put her on oxygen support, let's hope for the best".

Lade was wheeled back to the ward, her mum and husband was allowed to see the babies, they were fine they assumed and went back to the ward watching Lade and monitoring the oxygen.

After an hour, Ayobami left and promised to come back, Shinaayo went home to change his cloth and also to make food for his mother in-law since they said Lade won't be able to eat untill she flatulate.

Lade opened her eyes and begin to agitate, her mum quickly rush to call the doctor, after a while with much comforting they were able to calm her with showing her her babies as she insisted.

"This are your babies, the boy first and the girl is next".

She felt a pang build up in her, she was happy her joy came at last. One of the babies was running temperature, the doctor ran some tests on him and found out he needed blood transfusion. His blood was taken to the laboratory to know his blood group and genotype.

The test result was out and the baby has a negative rhesus. The doctor told Lade that she needs to take Rhogam injection so that she would be able to carry full term pregnancy next time as without the injection her antibodies will attack the babies own and it can make her miscarry the pregnancy, she agreed and she was given.

Now they needed someone to donate blood since he has a rare genotype which is B-, Lade was confused because she knew Shinaayo also had negative rhesus and she had positive rhesus. She instructed the doctor to do the other baby blood group and genotype and it was the same as the first baby. Her mum called both Shinaayo and Ayobami to tell them the situation on ground and they both came for test to know whom blood is perfect match for the baby.

After what seems like hour, silence has been their companion, no one talk to each other, the nurse came in with the doctor and announced that Shinaayo's blood is the same with the babies.

To be certain of their discovery they requested for DNA test, Ayobami was sad, not that he wished Lade would have a baby for him nevertheless he wished he was the one that become a father, he knows the feeling he had when Lade agreed for him to be part of her pregnancy journey he wished that the DNA will prove otherwise.
Shinaayo donated his blood and it was transfused to the baby.

"Mum..." She called her mum "...my husband is the father of my child"  she said with tears welling up in her, She knew that she can't stop the tears, it was  different from the tears she usually teared, this is a tear of joy.

"As the situation is, am also certain he is but let's wait for the DNA results because of Ayobami" her mum hugged her and she pour her heart to her with tears.

"Mum.. the sex was a mistake, I don't wish for it to happen, I never wish to disgrace you, I wanted you to be proud of me, after all that happened to me, I have been cautious of myself, It just happened as God will have it, I felt I have wronged you please forgive me" this time both mother and daughter were crying, they cried together and comfort their selves afterwards.

They waited for 3 days before the doctor discharge them and they left for home, with thoughts that after the children celebrate their first year birthday, the DNA will be done and it help them confirm the paternity of the babies hoping it will be in favour of Lade and Shinaayo.
