“Surprise!”

Staive and Zion both shouted when I opened the door of my apartment. Balloons are everywhere. The mini table on the sala is full of my favorite snacks. Staive went to the kitchen and when he came back, he’s already holding a small blue cake. The word Bon Voyage is written on it.

I grasped on my nape, “Pft, you wasted your time just to make a despedida party for me? What an effortful friends.”

Staive chuckled, “Of course, bro. We can’t let you leave without a despedida party. You know, we really don’t know kung gaano ka katagal sa New York.” He reasoned out.

“Fine, bros. Should we start the mini party while I still have time?” I asked and smiled.

“Yes!” They shouted in unison.

Staive opened one of the chocolate drink and sipped it. Si Zion naman ay kumuha ng waffle. We just talk and talk until the clock strikes at 9. Most of my personal things kasi ay nasa bahay. ‘Yong dito sa apartment ay kaunti lang naman. I didn’t bother to take my things na nandito because Zion will going to stay here. He agreed already so I’m not going to worry about my apartment anymore. This became part of my college life. I don’t want to leave but I can’t stay here either.

“Sungit, male-late ka na sa flight mo!” I heard the little guy shouted. I immediately stepped forward as I breath hard. “Ang tagal mo naman.” He complained.

I raised my right brow, “Pake mo.” Then I stucked my tongue out. I just want to tease him because I’m not going to see him for many years.

While we are on our way, these two can’t stop singing loud. I got irritated but I stopped myself from complaining because I know they’re just enjoying the time that we are still together. When we reached the airport, their mood changed. They’re as quiet as a stone now.

I faced them as I put my arms on their shoulders, “Hey, don’t be sad. Kaya nga may technology, ‘di ba? We can still communicate through chat or video calls.” I tried to make them smile but I failed. “Look, I’m going to do this for them. Stop frowning, jerkies. You look ugly now.” I teased, trying to make them smile.

He pouted and looked down. He’s going to cry.

I laughed, “Sabi nang don’t be sad tapos malulungkot kayo?” I looked at my watch when we heard a voice calling out for those passengers. I looked at them and my tears started to fall. “It’s time to go, buddies.”

Staive extended his arms and we did a group hug. “We’re going to miss you, Jared.”

After that long, tight hug, I started to walk and entered the airport. I checked-in and also my luggages. After that, dumaan naman ako sa immigration inspection. I showed my boarding pass. Until I reached the boarding gate. I waited until our departure was announced. I walk through the airport terminal, entered the plane and put my luggage on the overhead bin

I sighed as I try to stop my tears from falling down. It’s embarrassing if I cry here alone. I chose the seat beside the window. The pilot announced to turn off our phones and put our seatbelts on. When the plane starts to depart, I closed my eyes. It’s going to be a long journey.

Finally, the plane arrived at New York. It’s already 2 am here. The flight was so long. I went to the near taxi way and saw a black Mercedes-Benz. She’s already here.
