“Now, I pronounce you as husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride.” We all applaud as the priest uttered the magical word and when Staive give his wife a kiss on her forehead.
Many cheered for them and congratulates them as they walk down the aisle. Flowers are splattered on them. Everyone were happy. I saw how happy Staive was when he entered the bridal car with his wife. I went to my car para sumunod sa reception when someone poked me on my shoulder.
I awkwardly diverted my gaze, “Uhm, hey.”
He laughed and ruffled my hair, “Nakakatawa ka naman. Long time no see, sungit!” He showed me his bunny smile.
I felt relieved of what he treated me. I thought he would stay away from me. “Long time no see, little guy.” I replied and simply smiled. “I missed you.”
He looked at me like he’s telling me the word ‘Weh?’. I just pouted and signaled him to enter the car. While driving, we passed by the building where he supposed to jump that time.
Out of curiosity, I tried to ask him.
“Zion.” I called him. He immediately turned to me. “About that day…” I think first what words to use to avoid hurting his feelings. I want to be careful with my words. “Uhm, may I know why are you trying to harm yourself? I mean, you were my blockmate that time and already at the last semester. Is it about your acads?”He slowly shooked his head, “Hindi. Dahil ‘yon kay Zeia. ‘Yong kapatid ko.” He answered. I remembered that bitch’s face again. “Dumating na kasi sa point na gusto ko nang sumuko dahil sa paghihirap na dinaranas ko kapag kasama siya. Ayon, magsusuicide sana ako kaso ikaw eh.”
Amidst of what happened with him before, he remain strong.“I’m glad that I saved you.” I simply uttered while reminiscing how my world stopped when I first saw him. “Oh, wait. Hindi pala totally na-save. I know, masakit ang katawan mo after you fell. Did you go to the hospital?”
Past is past nga ‘di ba? Iba na lang isipin mo.” He chuckled.
“Sige, ikaw na lang ang iisipin ko.”
He burst out of laughter, “Ang corny! Kailan ka pa natutong bumanat?”
“Secret.” I uttered and stucked out my tongue. I’m glad that I’m started to feel the butterflies on my tummy again.
When we arrived at the reception, everything was ready. Staive and Neah is already dancing while some are attaching money on there clothes. What caught my attention is the biggest one. It’s from Zion. Habang nanonood si Zion, I excused myself for a while dahil kukunin ko ‘yong perang ididikit ko rin. I customized it to look like a cape. I went back and attached it around the partner’s neck.
“Naks, daming pera, ah?” Zion teased after I went back beside him. “Sana all.”
“Kung alam mo lang kung gaano kahirap gawing hugis cape ‘yan.” I sighed in disbelief. Almost three days ko rin ‘yang pinaghirapan but it’s worth it.
After the reception, nagpaalam na ako kay Staive at Neah. I just wished them to have the best life.
When the sun rotates the earth seven times, Staive invited me to a beach vacation. They’re on leave on their works naman daw so no worries. I didn’t bring my car because they’re using their van which is enough for the seven of us. It’s already afternoon. Baby Gerysaelle, the daughter of Gary and Ysa, happily run towards the sea and pointing the orange painted sky.
