The streets were dark as I heard his echoing footsteps. I was hesitant to speak, but I knew I had to say something. I couldn’t let him walk out on me like that.
-Are you really leaving, Sasuke?
He didn’t say anything, but he stopped walking.
-There’s nothing left for me here.
-What are you talking about? What about Kakashi sensei? Or Sakura? Or me? I said that last part quietly, but he seemed to have heard it.-I have to get stronger. I have to serve my purpose. He replied.
-Revenge isn’t a purpose, Sasuke. It’s a sacrifice.
He immediately spun around to face me.
-Then, so be it.
I stayed quiet for a few seconds, my thoughts racing. We were staring straight into each other’s eyes. I sighed.
-What about us? We’re a family. We’re your comrades. That must add up to something in your eyes. You mean a lot to me, Sasuke. We’ve been through so much together.
-Are you done? Because I have to get going. He grumpily said.
My heart was beating out of my chest, yet I couldn’t run up to him to stop him. As he turned back around and walked further away. I had to let everything loose before it was too late.
-Sasuke, I’m not Sakura! I exclaimed. I’m not going to plead you to stay because I love you. That’s just not my style. But that doesn’t mean that I love you any less than she does. I’m sure if she were here she’d beg you to come along with you, but I just can’t do that. And it’s not because of you. I love you, but I also have to follow my dreams, because it’s my purpose in life.
Sasuke stopped again. His backpack seemed so light on his delicate yet muscular shoulders. The brown bag was hiding the logo of the Uchiha clan on Sasuke’s shirt. The dark haired boy turned around to glare at me.
-Then I guess this is goodbye. I know what I’m doing Naruto. I don’t know when we’ll see each other again, but I am fairly certain we will.
I looked at the ground in panic. He took one step forward before stopping again.
-And Naruto? He muttered.
I looked up at him, his back facing me.
-Thank you, he whispered.
By the time the words he had spoken sank in, he had already vanished in the night.
