The Nachtkrapp: The Nachtkrapp is a big dark raven-like bird, but some say it's an owl-like bird. Its appearance varies depending on the region but it is said that it has holes for eyes that if looked into causes death. It also has holes in its wings and like the eyes, if looked into, cause sickness.
There are two other variants: The Wütender Nachtkrapp, instead of abducting the children, the bird just crows loudly and flutters its wings until the child is silent with terror. The Guter Nachtkrapp is a rather rare version of the Nachtkrapp. It apparently enters a child's room and sings them to sleep. (Pictures)
