2)(more of a father son scenerio) Wilbur adopts Fundy when he is little from a shelter or pet shop and raised him as his Son after his child passed away.
3) Dream (or another smp member) is a hunter and Fundy happens to be a wolf fox hybrid. The hunter has been spending lots of time trying to figure out a way to catch the fox hybrid.
4) Dream (or someone else) ends up buying Fundy from a pet shop and taking him home. Perhaps Fundy is an omega if you want smut
