Sophie's heart was pounding against her chest as she looked up with a soft gasp.
They were close. Too close. But Sophie didn't seem to mind. It felt different than being with Fitz.
She always felt the need to be perfect around him. She was always self conscious of how she looked, or what she said.
With Keefe, sitting here right now, she didn't feel any of those things. She felt free.
Keefe hadn't moved an inch as he looked longingly at her. He looked at her as if he wanted to— oh no.
Sophie couldn't help looking at his lips in that moment. His perfect soft, pink lips. He started to lean forward and Sophie felt as if a magnet was pulling her, too.
But something in the back of her mind made her break the connection.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, "but it's not fair."
Keefe scrunched his eyebrows together and stared at her.
"What do you mean not fair?"
Sophie reached up to pull an eyelash from her eyelid, a nervous habit.
"My boyfriend is Fitz. Whether you, he, or I like it or not. I can't- I can't make myself be with someone else when I'm already in a commitment."
"But Foster he-"
"I know. Gosh, I know.. I just- Let me break up with him first, okay? Please, that's all I ask."
Keefe looked down at his hands before looking back up at her with a smirk.
"Okay Foster, just promise me one thing. Don't let him break your heart."
Sophie smiled sadly at him.
"He's already done that."
He hesitated a few seconds before opening his arms.
Sophie opened her mouth to yell at him for already breaking her promise, but he cut her off.
"A friendly hug, Foster, don't worry. Friends can hug."
He winked at her as she rolled her eyes and let him encircle her with his arms.
She heard the jingle of keys too late and before she could even move the door burst open.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?"
Oh whoopie - Fitz found her after all.
