Anet woke up the next morning to loud, rapid knocking on her door.
"An, wake up! Wake up, An! Rise and shine!" Tommy called from the other side.
Anet slogged across the room. Opened the door.
"Hiya, Sleeping Beauty."
"Do you know what time it is?"
"12:30ish."
"What? Really!?"
"I thought you were being a wise-guy."
"Nah." Yaaawn. "I am so tired."
"You look tired."
"Why are you here?"
"To see you of course." He kissed her forehead.
Anet felt a smile creep across her face. Her eyes still shut, keeping out the morning light.
"Hungry?"
Her stomach growled. "That means yes. You taking me to lunch?"
"If that's what you'd like to do today, sure."
An slogged across the room. "Alright. Wait for me downstairs. I'll change fast."
"Hurry baby. I'm starved." He headed downstairs. Found Ma in the kitchen. "Quiet day, Ma?"
"Yes, and it's just about to get more quiet." That mischievous smile.
Chuckle. "Maybe you'll get a chance to relax."
"Maybe." chuckle. "She's excited about something, I never heard her fly so fast down those stairs."
They stepped out out of the kitchen and dining room.
"Mmm, hmhm." He watched her descend the staircase.
"What're you up to?" Ma said.
"You know, I love seeing a dame run down the stairs, skirt whipping about her gammies."
"Oh, you scamp." Ma laughed. Smacking his chest with her cloth.
Anet reached the final step, "Ready!"
"Mhm! You look good, kid." He held up her coat.
"Thanks, Tommy." She slipped her arms in. They walked out the door. Crossing the shoveled path, she said, "You know what this place needs?"
"More pretty tenants like you?"
She laughed. "No, silly, it needs a snowman right there in the front yard. A big one for everyone to see!"
"You sound like a little girl."
"I wish I was a little girl. Heck! Compared to you, I practically am!"
"Not by much, I'm sure. How old are you again?"
"You mean, how young am I?" She smiled, "I'll be 23 in August."
"Oh. Well, see, little girl, come August you will be the same age as me."
She laughed, Sure. August in 81 years, she thought. Aloud she said, "I guess so... but we should build a snowman for Ma."
"Ma always did like big, round, button-nosed Joe's." Tom laughed.
"So, can we?"
"Now?"
"No, later sometime -when we're not busy."
"Ok, I promise: you and me, before the snow melts, will build Ma a snowman out here."

The guests at L'Angela were lively tonight! Anet herself a live-wire! She came offstage beaming. "God, this is so fun!" She peeked out at the guests dancing the Charleston. Legs kicking out. Dresses flapping to the rhythm.
