May 2010

"She is in neither 1918, 1923, nor 1922." Olivier had just been pulled back through the time portal. "We've narrowed out 6 years. Three of which I haven't gone to. So let's hope I don't end up from 1919 through 1921."

"How do you know she's not in those three years?" His wife asks.

"Logically, if she's not in 1923, the closest year to ours, then she's not anywhere before it. She's somewhere after." He pauses. "It is possible she could be further back. But the time leaps have been jumping around a few years of eachother. I like to think that it's trying to pinpoint the location of her broken watch. It seems to have gathered enough data to know her approximate whereabouts."

"That makes sense." Daniel says. "In the mean time, I'll work on getting the portal to lock in on specific time locations."

"I see you you've modified the machine while I was on the other side of it." He inspects an addition to the generator. "You've increased the coolant and refrigerant capacity... and output."

"Yes. My calculations suggested the system needed a more constant and steady flow of refrigerant to keep the system cool at the same rate as the energy running through it. The energy surge is at its highest when you go through it. So it releases the coolant to keep it from bursting again. But as you know it'll take time before you can use it again."

Olivier claps a hand on Daniel's shoulder. "The student becomes the master."

"It'll be about and hour for it to cool and complete its recharge."

"Enough time for lunch. I'll order a pizza."

Olivier steps outside the pizza parlor. Box of pepperoni pizzas in hand. A little miffed he has to come get it himself. "The cost of delivery these days." He mutters. He starts toward his car when he sees Jacob just stepping out of his. "Oh, Detective Maychild."

"Doc, I'm glad I ran into you. I was going to go see you later."

"Something I can help you with?"

Though the funeral scheme had gone convincingly well, it meant that appearances were to be kept up. It couldn't get back to anyone that Anet may still be alive.

Olivier intended to find Anet first before informing Jacob about where she's been —or rather, when she's been.

"I just... wanted to talk." He chose his words carefully whilst in public places.

"How's the hunt for Maggio?"

"We're just about in the same place we've always been." He sighs. "I really wish Anet were here..."

"As do I." He places his hand on the younger man's shoulder. "It's not a simple situation, I know, but you can rest easier knowing she's in a safer place where no gangster can harm her." I hope.

April 6, 1928

"Get outta the car."

Anet sat in the back. Arms crossed. Resolved not to move.

A few weeks ago, Vic had planned this trip to the mountains, but it was cancelled immediately when Junior ended up catching a severe flu and was sent home for a couple weeks to recover before returning back to school.

It was unlucky in that she wouldn't have the chance to meet Maggio's other ringleaders. But the moment Junior was better and back in school, the party weekend in the mountains was on again!
