Meridus dragged Blair into his room, slamming the door behind them. Out of anger, he picked up his sword and struck it in his bed post. Blair watched him in silence, not sure how to comfort him. She had just met him and his family and there was already drama occurring.

After a few minutes, the young prince finally calmed down. He took a deep breath, shaking his head. "I can't just marry someone." He said lowly, voice laced with sadness.

Blair hesitated before she sat next to him, gently grabbing his hand in comfort. "I don't understand royal duties, but I what I do know-" she gave him a small smile. "Your mother wants the best for you and for the kingdom. Honestly, I believe you should have your own choices but she seems stubborn."

Meridus chuckled at that. "Mums as stubborn as a mule." He said, gently squeezing her hand. "But me marrying someone, I'm not ready. If I did marry, I want it to eventually be with someone I love." He spoke sadly, frowning at the future he'll be forced to have if his mother continued to control him.

The two sat in comfortable silence before Elinor walked into the room. Meridus couldn't help but scowl at his mother. "Mother!" He yelled as he narrowed his eyes at her. "Marriage!" He exclaimed, waving his arms in the air and glared at the queen.

Elinor, ignoring him, walked towards the chessboard. "Once there was an ancient kingdom-"

Meridus groaned. "Ugh Mum!" The young lad slid down the bed, his butt landing on the floor. "Ancient Kingdom!"

The Queen ignored her son and continued, setting up the chess board on the nearby table. Curiously, Blair sat quietly and listened. "It's name long forgotten, ruled by-" she picked up the white king and turned to both Meridus and Blair. "A wise and fair king who was much loved. And when he grew old.-" she set up the piece on the table.

"He divided the kingdom among his four sons. That they should be pillars on which their piece of land rested." She said as she set up three other pieces in the form of a square and placed the chest board above the four pieces.

Elinor glanced at the two teenagers, making sure they were listening. "But the oldest prince wanted to rule the land for himself- he followed his own path and the kingdom-" the queen removed one piece from the bellow and the whole chess fell down losing its balance. "-fell, from war and chaos and ruin."

Meridus rolled his eyes at his mother. "That's a nice story." He said sarcastically.

She shot her son a stern look. "It's not just a story. Legends are lessons and they ring with truths."

"Ugh, mum!" The prince grunted as he ran his fingers through his curly hair.

"I would advise you to make peace with this. The clans are coming to present their suitors." His mother said with a stern voice.

"It's not fair!" Meridus grumbled once again, turning his back to his mother after he stood to his feet.

"Oh, Meridus!" The Queen gave a bitter laugh. "It's marriage, it's not the end of the world." She glanced over at Blair. "Blair, come with me dear.". Elinor walked out of Meridus' room as Blair followed. Before shutting his bedroom door, Blair turned and shot him a sadden smile before following after the Queen.

Later in the evening, Elinor muttered to herself as she worked on embroidering a tapestry of her family.

In the tapestry, Fergus was holding a sword; the triplets were standing in front of him. Meridus was beside his father holding his hand and Elinor stood beside her son, holding his other.
