The crowd had made its way from inside the castle to a huge field where the archery targets were being arranged. As the daughters were getting ready for the game, the rest were dancing and enjoying each others company.

Merdius and his family, along with Blair, were sitting under shelter that was created for the family. The prince lazily sat in his seat as Blair was sitting on the chairs' arm rest. She sighed with boredom, fanning herself with her hand from the humid heat. Why did they have to do this in the hottest weather of the summer?

A horn was loudly blown by one of the soldiers, startling the two teenagers. The daughters of the three clans were ready and in place, holding their heads high. Well, except for Dingwalls daughter, she still had no idea what was happening.

The queen, whom stood with pride at how the day was turning out, glanced at the two teenagers. Her expression turned sour at the two being lazy. The both of them noticed her scowl, instantly straightening up.

The king walked in front of his wife and announced- "It's time!" The crowd cheered, excited to see how this would turn out. The queen glanced at her husband who was rubbing his jaw thoughtfully. This man couldn't remember his name if no one had said it a million times a day.

Elinor sighed, decided to help him and remind him. "Archers, to your marks!" she announced, snapping her husband out of his daze.

"Aye! Archers, to ... your marks!" he announced after her, smiling at her gratefully.

Elinor finished for her husband, not wanting to wait for him to try and remember. "And may the lucky arrow find its target!"

As the crowd cheered and the daughters got into positions, Merdius smirked mischievously, slowly hiding his bow and arrow behind Blair. She watched him with amusement and raised her eyebrow. The boy just gave her a smile, winking at her before turning his attention to the game. Oh boy! He sure is going to anger his mother.

Lord MacGuffins daughter nervously glanced around the crowd and gulped in fear. She took the bow and arrow in her head. Lord Macintosh's daughter, spoiled and full of pride, flipped her hair and made some inappropriate poses with her bow and arrows. As for the last, Lord Dingwalls daughter, she was a different breed. She lazily picked up her bow and examined it with half opened eyes. She suddenly started to pull the string of the bow like a lyre.

Fergus groaned, inpatient. "Oi! Get on with it!" he yelled as he crossed his arms against his chest.

The first runner up, MacGuffins daughter came forward with her nerves noticeable. Her hands shaky as she pulled the arrow back before shooting at the target, but it hits the edge. She sighed with disappointment as her father groaned and face palmed. The other two clan leaders snickered at the girls failure.

Merdius, who felt pleased with the failure, turned to his father. "I bet she wishes she was tossing cabers."

"Holding up bridges!" Fergus added causing him, Blair, and Merdius to burst out laughing. Elinor shot them a glare, scoffing at their words.

Next runner up was Macintosh. The arrogant and snarky girl readied her bow and arrow. She gave the guys behind her, whom drooled over her beauty, a flying kiss and winked. This caused some of them to swoon. She aimed her bow before letting the arrow loose, missing the center of the target by just a few inches. "NOOO!" the girl scream. "AHHHH!"

"At least you hit the target!" Her father tried to cheer his daughter up but it just led her into a tantrum. Now this wasn't attractive at all.

Merdius turned to his father again. "Oh that's attractive." He whispered in a mocking tone. He definitely didn't want to marry someone like that. He watched as the girl threw her bow in the air with anger, someone in the crowd caught it. "Good arm." he added.

"And such lovely flowing locks." Deciding to join in, Blair mockingly flipped her air and made funny kissy faces. She mimicked Macintosh with what she did moments ago.

The king erupted into laughter, causing his wife to glare at him. "Fergus!" she snapped, causing him to stop. He gave her an innocent look, pouting that he was scolded at.

"Here's the last one." Blair said as they watched Dingwalls daughter turn towards the target. She was struggling to hold the bow and arrow. Her father, nervously biting on his nails, watched his daughter struggle.

"Come on with it!" Fergus shouted, getting inpatient at the girl taking too long. This startled the girl, causing her toilet go of the arrow and hit the target perfectly. Right in the middle.

First, everyone was too shocked to say anything. They didn't think she could do it. But then all of Clan Dingwall shouted and cheered for the victory. "Well done!" Lord Dingwall praised his daughter, doing a little victory dance. He stopped, bending down, he raised up his kilt up at the other two lords, showing his arse towards them. Both lords covered their eyes in disgust and starting to gag at the sight.

Fergus stared at the scene, shocked and with disbelief. "Well, that's just grand now, isn't it?" He turned to his wide. "Guess who's coming to dinner?" he definitely wasn't too happy with the outcome.

"Fergus!" the queen snapped at him, rolling her eyes at his words.

Ignoring her, Fergus continued. "By the way, hope you don't mind being called Sir Dingwa-" he turned to face Merdius but instead turned to one of his dogs in his seat, Blair patting its head. The king gave the girl a questioning look but she shrugged in return, pretending she didn't know where his son went.

Meridus, wearing a black cape that covered his face, stood in the field. He removed the cape to reveal his face, his crazy red curls blowing in the wind. He looked around the crowd, gaining everyones attention and announce. "I am Merdius, first born descendent of Clan DunBroch! And I'll be shooting for my own hand!" The crown gasped at this turn of event. The three Clan leaders glanced at the queen, looking for answers.

Elinor stood from her seat, glancing at Blair who kept her eyes trained on the prince. The queen was shocked, not expecting this. Well, in some ways she did. She looked over at her son "Meridus!" she yelled. "What are you doing!"

The prince ignored his mother and prepared to take aim, but the ugly attire he had on stopped him for doing so. "Curse this shirt!" He mumbled and bended down. causing his attire to rip at the back and arms, allowing him to finally move freely and breath. Satisfied, and now comfortable, he aimed his bow. The crowd watched him as he shot the target right in the center.

His mother started to move towards him, an angry look plastered on her face. "Stop this Meridus!" she shouted but he ignored her. Yes, this was disrespecting the clan leaders and their history, but he wants to fight for his right to marry whom and when he pleased. The crowd watched in complete since as Merdius aimed at the second target and shot the arrow right in the middle.

"Don't you DARE loose another arrow!" Elinor warned him, but he chose to continue to ignore her. Meridus glanced at Blair who only smiled at him, proud of his actions. He took another arrow and prepared to shoot the third target. This was his chance, his chance to prove to everyone that marriage wasn't always the answer. That he, nor anyone, should be forced into marriage. "Merdius!" his mother shouted. "I FORBID it!" she ordered.

But again, his ignored her and shot the arrow. Everyone watched as the arrow shot through the air. The arrow felt like it was going in slow motion as it flew towards the target. Lord Dingwall pulled at his hair as he watched with a distraught expression. Elinor sped her pace towards her eldest son in pure rage as Fergus watched the scene with wide eyes. Blair held her breath, watching at the arrow hits the center of the target, splitting Dingwalls arrow in half.

The prince lifted his head to look up at Blair and then to glance around at everyones reaction. Pure shock scattered everyones faces. He smiled, proud and pleased with himself. But just as he turned towards his mother, he came face to face with her. She was raging with anger, but Merdius just glared at her with the same fury.

He will never back down.
