You shivered at the hand tracing up your arm. You looked over to the offender and scoffed. "Munson, not joining your little cult?" You spoke in a whisper, not keen on attracting attention of the remaining students.

Anything with Eddie was attracting attention. "Spears! I'm here with a proposition." You shrugged his hand away from you.

"I'm still not joining your club, too busy." You shook your head and pushed away from the table. You had 10 minutes til the bell and were already finished with most of your homework.

"No no no no no." He followed your movements and gripped the back of your chair. He grinned and pushed himself closer. "Hows about we," he gestured between you two, "catch a movie, eat some burgers, Friday."

He grins at you and you feel the heat in your cheeks. He takes in the way your eyes flitter around.

"Sorry, no can do." You clear your throat. "My dad's got a thing about me dating."

His face drops and you hold back a grin.

"But, he never said anything about a trial run." His face lights up again and you mirror the expression. "Friday night, I'll be waiting."

You sit in front of your vanity, messing with your hair, your sisters are behind you on the bed and flipping through some magazines.

"You really think dad's not gonna flip when you're going out with Eddie "the freak" Munson?"

Iris asks and you can't stop the grin on your face. "He's cute and funny, what would dad have against him."

Your other sister, Millie, snorts. "He didn't even ask for dad's 'blessing'." The two start giggling about that. "He'd have an aneurysm if you didn't tell him."

"Well," you drag on a little, "dad doesn't need to know right now, I'm going out as a trial run." Your sisters turn to you, confused.

"A trial run? As a date?" Your cheeks heat up again and you nod.

"I wanna see how well it'll go, and, y'know, maybe it'll go somewhere."

"What are you even going to see?" You can tell Iris is going to start interrogating you soon so you shoo them both out of your room.

Eddie knew where you lived, you had given him your address and you both planned the night. Movie and some food, nothing extra.

It was a waiting game now, whenever he decided to pick you up.

"Hey!" Your sister Iris leans in the room again, her voice a harsh whisper. "No getting pregnant."

You scoff and throw a shoe at her, which she dodges with a laugh.

"Not that kind of night, Iris!"

You'd sat waiting four hours before giving up. What should you have expected?

You sniffle and groan. All dolled up for nothing. You laugh and mess through your hair again.

"You okay?" Your mom is at the door, leaning against the frame.

"Sure, mom." Your eyes have welled with tears and you don't understand why. Maybe you were embarrassed about getting stood up.

"Wish he had the decency to call, come up with some excuse, something." You started to take off your shoes, the outfit you asked your sisters to pick out looked flat in the light. Compared to hours before where the colors popped and you beamed at it in the mirror.

"Well, maybe he was just busy, maybe it has nothing to do with you."

You grimaced, not even thinking it had to do with you. "Yeah, yeah, I'm just gonna change and go to bed." You waved her off and waited for her to retreat.
