Real - At Addison's office
Addison sat at her desk sifting through charts and notes because her intern for the day had yet again ruined everything. She had asked for Stevens but for some reason she had been pulled for a case with Richard. Everyone knew when the chief wanted something, he got it. Then she had asked for Karev but he had been assigned to Mark. At last she dared ask for her, Meredith. But just as it had happened with the other two she had been assigned to someone else — Meredith was assigned to Derek, which pissed her off beyond relief for reasons she refused to acknowledge. Therefore, she had landed herself another intern, not even another one of Bailey's, just some random green intern, who apparently knew nothing of charting or the basics of being a doctor.
To say she was angry was an understatement. She was angry and snapping at everything that moved. She was being her Satan-self, which was why instead of staying with Callie while charting she has opted for her office. She was close to done when a soft knock got her attention and she hummed in response, not bothering to look up.
"Addison?" Called a familiar voice by her door. Not now.
"Addison?" She repeated as she looked up to find Meredith Grey watching her wearily.
"S-sorry. Dr. Montgomery." Meredith quickly corrected.
"What do you need, Grey?" She asked, her gaze drifting back to her paperwork.
"I need to talk to you." Meredith replied quickly.
"About?" Addison said, trying to keep the bite out of her tone.
"Well it's umm..." Meredith began but soon her voice died out.
"I don't have all day, Grey." Addison said and as she recalled an overheard conversation she threw the blonde a death glare. "And neither do you. Don't you have dinner with my ex husband? He did ask, didn't he?"
"He's insufferable. I'm not going anywhere with him. I don't want to. And I've said as much many times already." Meredith bitterly spoke, her irritation at the topic highly noticeable, which took Addison by surprise.
"... fine, whatever." She shrugged and looked away from the blonde as a tiny kernel of hope invaded her. Hope she wanted gone. "Just say whatever it is you need to and leave."
"D-do you believe in... in love?" Meredith stuttered out nervously.
"Seriously?" Addison exasperatedly glanced back at the blonde in front of her desk.
"Do you?" Meredith insisted.
Here Addison had a choice. Say yes and tell the blonde she was in love with her or say no to keep what was left of her heart intact. It wasn't an easy choice. Be brave or be a coward? Hold on or let go? Truth or lie?
"Not anymore." She replied and looked away once more as she saw a glimpse of pain in the blonde's eyes. "If that's all..." She added in a clear tone of dismissal.
"It isn't." Meredith replied quickly.
"Grey." Addison rolled her eyes with a sigh.
"Addison..." Meredith said her name again and she looked up to her.
"Again with the name." She huffed.
"Addison, I love you." Meredith said with a glint she didn't quite recognize, the words barely registering.
"You're not... wait what did you say?" She asked when she finally realized what the flushing blonde had said.
"You don't believe in love though..." Meredith said quietly and turned to leave. "Sorry to disturb you." She said walking out of the office quickly.
Addison stood and walked after her. The words in her head, not coming out. I love you, too. Wait. Don't go. Don't leave. Stop, Meredith. Meredith! This means... we could... Don't leave please. Wait! Wait! Wait!
"Wait! Meredith, wait!" She finally let out and the blonde stopped before slowly turning to face her. "I do. Me too! I lo—" She began but stopped once she noticed the murmuring people surrounding them.
She glanced around feeling her cheeks heat up slightly. She wondered if Meredith would be upset that she hadn't actually said it back. However, when she looked back at her it felt as if the wind had been knocked out of her as she found bright eyes and a dazzling smile.
"G-good. That's good. It's great." Meredith said, her voice slightly squeaky and her eyes glimmering.
"Yeah?" Addison muttered. Real, right? This is real?
"Yes..." Meredith smiled and walked closer but her pager went off. "We need to... see you later, Dr. Montgomery?"
"Addison." She corrected with her own smile.
"See you later, Addison." Meredith nodded and turned to leave once more.
"Wait... when's later?" She asked and couldn't keep the desperation from her voice, which had her blushing brightly. Calm down, Addison.
"8?" Meredith asked with half a smirk.
A smirk that snapped something in Addison. She walked closer to Meredith with predatory stillness. Watching said blonde gasp as she closed in sent a jolt through every inch of her body.
"8 it is, love." She said softly. Forgetting all about the people surrounding them (more like not giving a damn) she planted a small kiss on the blonde's cheek. "Go on, you'll get in trouble."
When she backed away, Meredith was almost dazed and completely flushed. Addison chuckled at the sight and the blonde snapped, shaking her head.
"See ya." Meredith said and turned.
As she did so Addison began to question everything. Wasn't this too good to be true? It wasn't like her life was ever good like this. There was always a mess, which generally brought her too much pain. And with this she didn't think she'd be ok at the end. Was this a set up? Was it payback? Was this real?
"Addison." Meredith called back just before she turned the corner. "It's real."
It was the look in her baby blue eyes and the conviction with which she had said it that chases away the fears and panic that had arisen. Addison smiled and nodded at the blonde, who waved and disappeared around the corner. With a smile on her face Addison turned back to her office and happily whispered to herself.
"Real."
There's day 5. This is fun. It's put a halt on everything else but it's fun. Btw don't expect longer ones all the time. Work isn't nice and I can't always write like this. Anyway, back tomorrow. ツ
