Kiss - At the elevator

It was late. No, it was early. It was two in the morning and she was still in the hospital. She wasn't supposed to be there, she had been off hours before but she sat at the discarded gurney and had fallen asleep. When she woke there was a blanket draped over her. She had frowned at it and scanned her surroundings but whoever had left it was long gone.

A few minutes later she found herself wandering the hospital halls waiting for the heavy storm outside to let off a bit before heading home. She wondered if her roommates had even noticed she hadn't gone home yet. No wait, they must've. Izzie and George were worse than the gossiping nurses.

Flashing lighting illuminated the hallway a bit more than usual but it seemed the rain was starting to slow down. At least she could make out the cars in the parking lot from the window she now stood by. Deciding to finally head home and actually enjoy the rest of the night she made her way to the elevators.

After a few minutes the door slid open and she stepped in. Just as the door was sliding shut she heard clicking heels and someone shouting to hold the elevator. She quickly pressed the button to open the door and in came a familiar redhead. The same one who had strolled into her life uninvited six months ago. Her now ex-boyfriend's wife and as of two months ago her ex-boyfriend's ex-wife—Addison Montgomery.

"Thanks."

"No problem." Meredith chirped and was rewarded with a smile from the redhead. "You're here late."

"Babies and their clocks." Addison shrugged. "But it's fine I just delivered the cutest baby ever. She smiled at me."

"You sure it wasn't gas?" Meredith chuckled as Addison huffed.

They had become somewhat friends after everything. At the beginning their interactions were a bit awkward but once they got over the mistress and wife situation things had gone along rather well.

"She was smiling. I'm a baby doctor so I would know."

"If you say so."

"Whatever, Meredith." Addison rolled her eyes. "Anyway, was the blanket warm enough? Also who falls asleep on a gurney instead of going home to bed?"

"I don't know." Meredith shrugged and after a pointed look from Addison she let out a sigh. "I was tired, ok? I just sat there for a little while and fell asleep... And the blanket was nice. Thank you, Addison."

"You're very welcome." Addison snipped back.

Meredith was about to say something when the elevator jolted and stopped moving. The bright lights suddenly blinked off and the dim ones from the internal generator came to life.

"A-Addison." She said moving closer to the redhead.

"It's ok. It'll probably start moving again soon."

"How soon?"

"Soon. Let's check the emergency phone." Addison moved and Meredith could feel the elevator shaking with each step.

"No wait!" She exclaimed and grabbed Addison's arm.

"Calm down. I need to make sure they know we're here." Addison said, reaching for the phone.

The line rang for a few minutes before she heard the faint hello.

"Hello? Hi. The elevator stopped moving... we're between two and one... there's two of us... Dr. Montgomery and Dr. Grey..." Addison spoke calmly and Meredith wondered if she had dealt with this before. "Us?" Addison asked and then looked back at her before speaking again. "Yeah, no, we're fine... ok, we'll wait... thanks."
