Scared - At an old hotel
Scared? No. Never. She was Meredith Grey and she never, ever got scared. Truly, fear and her just didn't go together. Except... she was utterly terrified right now. In her defense though, they had chosen to watch a horror movie and despite enjoying them she did get certain scenes stuck in her head. In addition they had had to stay at this solitary old hotel and there was a raging storm outside.
Thunder shook the walls and had her tensing all over as she tried to sink herself more into the bed. She glanced sideways to find her companion focused on what she suspected was notes on her presentation. It was weird, their situation, also the people who had come along to this conference were a rather confusing bunch. It seemed aside from her roommate who was actually presenting, Richard had sent people he picked at random— her, Addison, Alex, and Owen. Again, Addison had a reason to be there, but the rest, not really. They had just been walking by the chief's office when he pulled the three of them in and informed them they'd be joining the neonatal surgeon. The tall redhead had been just as confused as they had but said nothing when Richard had spoken and a week later, they had rented a car and piled themselves in.
The drive to Portland wasn't long but their weekend was going to be very busy so they had opted to travel Thursday afternoon. Everything was going fine until a heavy storm swept by and they got stuck in traffic for hours. Rather than drive through the night Owen spotted the hotel and got a suite with two separate rooms and two full beds each. For the size of the building the suite was rather large. The rooms branched off the living room, where they had watched their movie together after some pizza. After some discussion it was decided that the girls would room together, which had left her with Addison.
More thunder rumbled and she tensed once more. The building seemed to shake a bit as the rumble echoed throughout and she startled a bit when the lights began to flicker.
"Grey?"
"Hi umm sorry."
Addison eyed her for a few seconds and she forced a smile. She fought to keep the blush from appearing on her cheeks but she knew she had lost that fight. The redhead seemed to want to say something but she beat her to it.
"I'm not scared."
"You're not?" Addison quirked a brow.
Her red glasses perched on the top of her nose made the redhead look positively delicious but Meredith halted her wandering mind at that. Amusement and a challenge shone in Addison's jade eyes.
"I'm not scared." Meredith insisted. "It's just... this is a new place. It's not my room or my bed."
"You sure it wasn't the movie? Had I known you'd have trouble sleeping I'd have put on some cartoons or something." Addison smirked.
"I don't need cartoons. I watch scary movies all the time."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. But like... I'm not scared. I don't ever get scared." Meredith huffed when she saw the sparkle in the redhead's eyes and turned away from her.
Addison didn't say anything, just chuckled. The ruffle of papers told her that the redhead had gone back to her notes. A few silent minutes passed and she started hearing thuds on the ceiling accompanied by more thunder and flickering lights. She tried to calm herself, her breathing starting to get faster and her heart pounding in her ears, but wasn't accomplishing much.
"I'm going to turn off the lights now." Addison announced and she managed to hum in response.
A bright flash of lightning and very loud thunder later had the lights flickering again before power went out. Meredith couldn't help her loud yelp. The next bed over Addison was laughing.
