A Sheriff's Job

I went down stairs looking a mess in my pajamas and with my hair all over my head. As I reach the dining room, mother looks up at me from her book and then goes back to reading.

"I would say good morning but based on how you look I don't think you're having one." She says without looking up from her book.

"I am having a realization." I say with a tired smile on my face.

Mother puts down her book with an amused look on her face. "Please, do tell me this realization of yours." She says in a teasing tone.

"We go nowhere and no one comes to visit because we cursed the town. What's the point of getting ready in the morning if all we're going to do is sit around, watch tv, and read?" I say while walking off and flopping down on the couch. I stretch out with my hands behind my head. "There is no point. That's what I've realized."

"Ah an insightful one indeed." She says mocking me as she walks out of the dining room and swats my feet off the couch. "Now. We need to talk about last night." She says as she sits down next to me on the couch.

"Uuuuuugggghh" I say as I sit up. But before she can say anything else there's a knock on the door.
"Yes!" I say victoriously as she gets up to get the door as she's the only one actually ready for the day. "Wait what? Why is someone here?" I say in realization of the situation. She walks down the hall to get the door.

"Why to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit, Ms.Swan." I hear from the front hallway and jump up from the couch.

I stand up and think about my whole wardrobe. I come to the conclusion of a frilly maroon blouse and tan pants. This outfit always reminds me of my riding clothes. I then flick my wrist and I have the outfit on. When I look in one of the mirrors I realize I'm dressed way too formal and that it looks like my mother picked my clothes. "What the fuck?" I sigh in frustration and change the whole outfit to my black and white flannel with a maroon shirt underneath and black high waisted skinny jeans. I can hear Emma and mother getting nearer as I twirl my finger in the air causing my to shape in the perfect dome.

"Rose." I hear mother call from behind me.

"Yes?" I say as I turn around. "Oh hey Swan." I say like I had no idea she was here. "What's up?"

"I need you two to come down to the station with me." She says with a sigh and the room goes into an uncomfortable silence.

"Can we take my car or are you gonna put us in the back of that yellow monstrosity in front of my house?" Mother says clearly sick of this encounter.

"You're not under arrest Regina." Emma says while rolling her eyes.

"No but we are gonna take a little drive downtown right?" Mother says with a fake smile on her face before dropping it and walking past Emma. "Let's go Rose." She calls from the front door.

I start walking toward the door. "You coming Swan? Or are we expected to question ourselves too?" I say and Emma is shocked by my tone.

"I um, I can't let you ride with Regina." She says clearly uncomfortable.

"Thanks for your concern but my mom has never hurt me and she's not going to start now." I say and turn back to the door.

"No it's protocol. I can't let you ride with Regina." She says and I stop for a second and turn around.

"Whatever you think she did, she didn't do it. But fine Emma let's go." I pick up my magic blocking bracelet and walk out the door.

"Finally! Rose let's go." My mom calls from her car.

"Sorry mother, apparently it's protocol that we can't be in the same car to get or story straight. I guess we'll have to wing it at the station." I say with a shrug and laugh. Mother rolls her eyes and  pulls away from the house.

"Can we talk?" Emma asks as she unlocks the car.

"Nope." I say as I get in the passenger seat.

"Dani-"

"I'm sorry sheriff but I know my rights. I plead the fifth." I say stubbornly hoping to annoy the blonde into silence. Emma sighs and pulls off.

"I just want to talk about last night." She says while driving.

"Sorry sheriff I don't know what time or day this crime supposedly happened so until we are in an appropriate scenario, I'm not disclosing anything about my night." I say in my most regal voice.

"Seriously Dani?" She says now annoyed.

"I'm serious sheriff I-"

Emma suddenly stops in the middle of the road. "Oh cut the crap Quartz! You just don't want to open up to me."

"No sher-iff I don't want to talk to you because you think my mom committed a crime and she didn't!" I say mocking her. "I mean how do you know it wasn't me."

"Because you wouldn't kill anyone out of anger and you have an alibi." Emma says and I go quiet. She continues driving down the road.

"Somebody's dead?"

Sorry this is a little short.
